Nanny Wang stood expressionlessly beside him, while two maids watched him from either side.
Footsteps sounded outside the hall.

"I was merely... observing the heavens at night and discovered something unusual about tonight's moonlight. I feared it might harm your esteemed person..."
"That was why I was in such a hurry to go outside the residence and see how to avert it..."
The more he spoke, the more smoothly the words flowed, his gaze sincere.
"I never expected Nanny Wang to misunderstand, and so..."
Miss Murong's eyes lit up at that. "You did it for me?"
"Of course!"
Zhou Yan nodded vigorously, his expression earnest. "You've treated me with such deep affection and kindness. Though I, Zhou Yan, am only a rogue cultivator, I still understand repaying kindness."
Miss Murong was so moved that her eyes reddened.
She turned and glared at Nanny Wang. "Nanny! How could you treat Young Master Zhou like this?!"
The corner of Nanny Wang's mouth twitched, but she said nothing.
Zhou Yan had only just breathed an inward sigh of relief.
