Third-tier cultivation also permits human transformation 50. |
Background / History
Red Wind lived in the Mountain of Ten Thousand Silences and was an old enemy of Black Mountain, the Mountain-Shaking Bear. Shortly before befriending Si Chen, the two had fought over an egg they believed might be a treasure. After it hatched into Red Bean, Red Wind initially dismissed the bird as ordinary because he detected no remarkable bloodline aura 33.
Si Chen healed both demons with pills supplied by his family. Grateful for the treatment and reassured by his lack of malice, Red Wind invited him to stay and explore the mountains. During the following month, he gathered spiritual wild fruit for Si Chen, teased Black Mountain about his boasts, and increasingly offered his back as a mount 33 34.
Appearance
- Large tiger form: An imposing Red-Eyed Tiger with a furry head, red eyes, sharp fangs, and claws 33 34 35 39.
- Broad back: Warm and steady enough for Si Chen to ride comfortably, with Red Bean perched on his shoulder 34 35.
- Expressive tail: Swishes or wags conspicuously when he is pleased or excited 33 34.
- Human form: Available after reaching the third tier, but not displayed in the documented passages; Red Wind prefers his original body 50.
Personality
Red Wind is straightforward, affectionate, and somewhat more refined than Black Mountain. His happiness is often betrayed by an uncontrollably wagging tail. He shows friendship through practical gestures—bringing Si Chen fruit, carrying him, and taking responsibility for navigation—rather than maintaining formal politeness 33 34 38.
His loyalty is fierce. He protects Si Chen from Lü Ci, joins the retaliation after the Blood Pool incident, and insists on carrying the exhausted Si Chen when other demons compete for the honor. Nevertheless, his desire for cultivation opportunities can override caution: despite trusting Si Chen’s judgment, he enters the suspicious Blood Pool because the apparent Flood Dragon blood is too tempting 35 38 42 44.
He also remains attentive to unfinished threats. After Lü Ci and Elder Mo die, Red Wind reminds the others that Fang Heng has escaped and immediately organizes a mountain-wide search 50.
Abilities & Skills
Wind Manipulation
Red Wind surrounds himself with wind blades and uses wind to support his movement 35 36 41.
- Helps Black Mountain block Lü Ci’s furious sword strike at the Heavenly Pit 35.
- Weakens the lightning of Si Chen’s Thunderbolt Grid while attempting to break through it 41.
- Combines wind blades with claw attacks and pounces 41 44.
- Cannot overcome Dragonfall Land’s flight restriction; repeated leaps fail to reach the airborne Red Bean 41.
Physical Strength, Speed, and Durability
His third-tier body combines powerful claws with considerable agility and toughness 39.
- Runs through the forest as a red streak while carrying Si Chen 35.
- Escapes the corrosive lake by raising a breeze beneath his feet and bounding across floating corpses 36.
- Tears through a cultivator’s chest with his claws while under the Blood Pool’s influence 39.
- Can withstand exchanges with Nascent Soul opponents, though Elder Mo, a Nascent Soul middle-stage expert, receives his attacks without yielding 39 44.
- Suffers painful but non-serious burns from Red Bean’s fireballs 41.
Human Transformation
Third-tier demon beasts can assume human form. Red Wind explains that he and Black Mountain dislike it because it restricts their movements compared with their natural bodies 50.
- Retains his tiger form while Black Mountain transforms to collect Storage Rings 50.
- No human-form appearance or combat use is documented 50.
Tracking and Navigation
Red Wind knows the Mountain of Ten Thousand Silences and takes over pathfinding when Si Chen’s poor sense of direction becomes a problem 33 35 38.
- Helps locate Si Chen by scent after he becomes lost while gathering fruit 35.
- Guides the party through Dragonfall Land’s branching passages to the Blood Pool chamber 38.
- Detects an overpowering scorched smell near the Flood Dragon’s remains 43.
Demon Lore
Red Wind recognizes important signs and treasures associated with Flood Dragons 34 47.
- Identifies Si Chen’s Flood Dragon Scale alongside Black Mountain 34.
- Explains that scattered scales lure powerful beings whose blood and souls may enable a Flood Dragon’s resurrection 34.
- Explains how tribulation lightning forms a Dragon Pearl and how swallowing it completes a successful transformation into a true dragon 47.
Leadership
Red Wind acts as one of the two third-tier leaders among the accompanying demons 44.
- Takes charge of the hunt for Fang Heng 50.
- Dispatches swift demons to spread the search order throughout the mountain 50.
Relationships
- Si Chen — Close friend and sworn-in-spirit “brother.” Si Chen heals him, accepts his hospitality, and later saves him from the Blood Pool’s corruption; Red Wind serves as his mount, guide, and defender 33 34 35 42.
- Black Mountain — Former enemy turned companion. Red Wind regularly punctures the bear’s boasts, but they cooperate in navigation, defense, and battle 33 35 38 49.
- Red Bean — Initially underestimates the hatchling. During his frenzy, he attacks the transformed bird; afterward, Red Bean remains visibly displeased with both him and Black Mountain 33 41 42.
- Lü Ci — Enemy who attacks Si Chen and later seals him inside the Blood Pool hall. Red Wind helps prevent Lü Ci’s escape before the Corpse Flood Dragon kills him 35 40 49.
- Elder Mo — Opponent who intervenes on Fang Heng’s behalf and engages Red Wind directly 44 46.
- Fang Heng — Surviving enemy whose escape prompts Red Wind to mobilize the mountain’s demons 50.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Journey to Dragonfall Land
After identifying the Flood Dragon Scale and explaining its dangers, Red Wind joins Si Chen, Red Bean, and Black Mountain in investigating Dragonfall Land. He carries Si Chen to the Heavenly Pit and helps block Lü Ci’s attack before the entrance opens 34 35.
Inside the lair, he survives the flight-suppression trap and corrosive lake, reunites with the others on shore, and follows Si Chen into the cave after the ambush on Lü Ci 36 37.
Blood Pool Frenzy
Red Wind leads the party to the Blood Pool, then enters it despite Si Chen’s warning. Its corruption strips him of reason, causing him to kill cultivators and attack his own friends. His attacks help prevent Si Chen from escaping before Lü Ci collapses the exit 38 39 40.
Red Bean distracts him and Black Mountain while Si Chen purifies the pool. Si Chen then kicks Red Wind into the cleansed water, which expels the contamination and restores his sanity. Apologetic afterward, Red Wind carries Si Chen as the recovered demons pursue Lü Ci 41 42.
Retaliation and the Hunt for Fang Heng
Red Wind attacks Lü Ci with the other demons before Elder Mo intercepts him. When Fang Heng raises the Corpse Flood Dragon, Red Wind braces for battle rather than abandoning Si Chen 44 47.
After Si Chen turns the dragon corpse against its handlers, Red Wind and Black Mountain block Lü Ci’s retreat until the corpse kills him. With Fang Heng still at large, Red Wind sends swift demons to organize the search while Si Chen returns to his den for cultivation 49 50.
