They had originally been one. Perhaps the Sword Immortal who unleashed the Stunning Sword Strike had driven his power to its utmost, breaking the sword. Its hilt and part of its blade had fallen into the Lower Realm, while the tip remained in the Upper Realm and eventually fell into the Xuanyuan Sword Sect's hands.
Perhaps that Sword Immortal had died, and it had been sent down as an inheritance.
And his own luck defied the heavens-or perhaps fate had ordained their meeting in the unseen workings of the world.

But once Li Yang brought out its main body, the two pieces joined steadily like magnets drawn together, fitting without the slightest gap.

Because it was broken and its origin source incomplete, it could not be refined. He could only comprehend its conception.
