Background / History

Before meeting Chun Xiaobai, Bai Jin'er spent years undertaking Outer Sect missions, narrowly surviving several of them and accumulating three thousand merit points. The dangerous three-star missions she usually accepted paid one hundred spirit stones each 18 23.

She had also taught numerous junior disciples how to draw qi into their bodies. Her fifth-level Qi Refining cultivation did not qualify her to access Green Bamboo Peak’s summit without being brought there by another disciple 23 25.

The Azure Cloud Sect’s registration records establish that she and Fang Yuan had joined the sect seven years earlier. Han Fei, a highly ranked senior brother, had also protected her before leaving to gain experience; after returning, he attempted to provide her with direct access to the Inner Sect 206 237 304.

Her association with Chun Xiaobai transforms her access to resources. Pills, cultivation manuals, magical artifacts, and substantial shares of stolen wealth allow her to advance rapidly beyond her original Outer Sect cultivation. She subsequently invests heavily in improving herself, partly because she fears being outshone by women such as Qin Ruoxue and Ye Liuli and wants to become worthy of Chun Xiaobai 72 76 234 377.

Appearance

  • Face: Large, sparkling eyes, a pert nose, and a delicate face described as attractive whether smiling or scowling 8.
  • Build: Slender waist; shorter than Chun Xiaobai and apparently younger than him 8.
  • Expressions: Frequently blushes when embarrassed, especially when Chun Xiaobai draws attention to her or behaves familiarly 18 22 34 43.
  • After Foundation Establishment: Her skin becomes noticeably fairer and more delicate, while her previously fresh-faced prettiness gains an otherworldly, immortal grace 234.
  • Grooming and clothing: Later devotes considerable attention to cosmetics and changing outfits, prompting Chun Xiaobai to complain that she sometimes changes clothes ten times a day 307.

Personality

Bai Jin'er initially presents herself as a stern senior sister, insisting that Chun Xiaobai respect her Outer Sect status and snapping at his staring. Her brusqueness does not prevent her from helping him: she gives him food when he is hungry and advises new chore disciples to spend their earnings on strengthening pills before others can rob them 8 9.

She is observant but can be swayed by apparent strength and generosity. She notices inconsistencies in Chun Xiaobai’s identity, yet Fang Yuan’s account of his victory over Li Xuanfeng convinces her to dismiss her suspicions. His gifts and combat performances then turn her wariness into admiration 17 18 22.

After discovering his deception, she remains uneasy about becoming a bandit’s accomplice. Nevertheless, she comes to regard him as generous and more approachable than the sect’s arrogant geniuses. Valuable cultivation resources tempt her, but she continues to question his recklessness rather than sharing Fang Yuan’s unquestioning confidence 24 36 39 43 46.

Her apparent timidity conceals a strong attachment to money. Chun Xiaobai judges her to be even greedier than Fang Yuan, noting that she verbally refuses rewards while accepting them readily. She is also frugal enough to object when told to purchase the best cultivation resources, although she understands that resources must be absorbed to secure their benefits 72 76 206.

Over time, she becomes more assertive, calculating, and protective of Chun Xiaobai’s interests. She scolds companions who hesitate to perform dangerous work despite accepting equal rewards, guards communal funds against premature distribution, and proposes shifting responsibility for their crimes onto stronger collaborators. Chun Xiaobai increasingly approves of her cunning 123 324 355.

Her concern for the stronghold’s money eventually extends to profitable schemes of her own. She cooperates with Lu Qingshan in secretly taking recruitment commissions, approving a deduction of three hundred million spirit stones from each recruit’s five-hundred-million payment 403 407.

Her attraction to Chun Xiaobai also becomes increasingly explicit. She hopes to become the Stronghold Madam, resents potential romantic rivals, and grows frustrated when he treats her as a brother rather than a woman. Despite repeatedly being rebuffed, she continues pursuing him and regards their daily proximity as an advantage 205 255 273 475.

She retains some moral objections despite her participation in robbery and extortion. On learning that the Spirit Origin Sect secretly drains the origin essence of chosen ones, she compares its conduct to that of the demons pursued by the Emperor Pavilion 335.

Abilities & Skills

Qi Refining

  • Her initial confirmed cultivation is the fifth level of Qi Refining 23.

  • She cultivates alongside Fang Yuan in Chun Xiaobai’s courtyard 36 37.
  • After consuming the pills Chun Xiaobai provides, she advances to the peak of the seventh level of Qi Refining, entering late-stage Qi Refining and increasing her combat strength more than fivefold 76.
  • During the expedition to the Ten Thousand Demon Mountain Range, she reaches the eighth level of Qi Refining and is singled out as the group’s fastest-improving member 93.

  • Later reaches the Golden Core Realm, alongside Fang Yuan and Bai Yutang 377.

  • Uses a strand of divine sense to activate a Formation Talisman 23.
  • Can operate the cave abode’s obscuring, concealment, and defensive arrays through the talisman 23 35.
  • Her demonstrated skill is operating an existing formation, not constructing one 23 35.
  • Explains that secret methods for removing divine sense imprints from Storage Rings are advanced techniques for breaking spatial formations, helping Chun Xiaobai identify a use for his Heaven-Rending Hand 126 127.
  • During her Qi Refining period, her divine sense is insufficient to bind and control the War Puppets Chun Xiaobai possesses; the stated minimum requirement is Foundation Establishment 120.

Cultivation Instruction

  • Has successfully taught many junior disciples to draw qi into their bodies 25.
  • Instructs Chun Xiaobai to clear his mind and concentrate his thoughts between his eyebrows 24.
  • Explains qi-sensing benchmarks and ordinary cultivation costs, including the usual maximum of ten spirit stones to reach first-level Qi Refining 25 27.
  • Her conventional instruction does not resolve Chun Xiaobai’s repeated drowsiness or inability to sense qi 24 25.
  • Warns that interrupting someone’s cultivation can cause qi deviation after Chun Xiaobai accidentally injures Fang Yuan by striking his shoulder 74.

Sect Knowledge

  • Explains chore-disciple duties, identity-token requirements, and the route to Outer Sect admission 8 9.
  • Understands Green Bamboo Peak’s unusual cave-abode challenge rules 42.
  • Directs Chun Xiaobai toward ranking challenges and explains eligibility, availability, and the compulsory monthly challenge requirement 42.

  • Identifies a third-tier spirit herb as the likely cause of a fight during the mountain expedition 89.
  • Explains the Eastern Region’s alliance system and the use of resource monopolies when the Emperor Pavilion prevents open, large-scale warfare 195.
  • Explains that the Artifact Refining Alliance’s monopoly makes heaven-tier magical treasures scarce and worth at least one hundred million spirit stones 195.
  • Consults an ancient book to establish the extraordinary value of ninth-tier pill formulas, whose rarity makes them comparable to supreme treasures 438.

Domestic and Administrative Skills

  • Alters black robes into a comfortable, close-fitting Night-Walking Garment in less than an hour 66.
  • Maintains Chun Xiaobai’s residence, including clearing the rubble from a destroyed artificial rockery and arranging his room after their entry into the Inner Sect 71 240.
  • Develops her cooking skills through preparing soups for Chun Xiaobai, earning his praise for their taste 258.
  • Helps sell entry tickets to the stronghold’s spiritual-qi cultivation business, distributes bonuses, and receives instructions to improve its food and facilities 250 254.
  • Handles large-scale financial distributions, including dividing twenty billion spirit stones into four shares of five billion 332.
  • Participates in collecting intelligence, including obtaining an Inner Sect Celebrity Directory with Fang Yuan for Chun Xiaobai’s brand-ambassador plan 246.

Operational Skills

  • Helps Xiao Zhang and Fang Yuan lure large groups of disciples into Chun Xiaobai’s ambushes 113.
  • Agrees to scout the mountain range’s Core Area for wealthy targets while relying on Aura Concealment and Swift Travel Talismans for protection 93.
  • Participates in preparations for posing as Emperor Pavilion emissaries and extorting wealthy criminals with demonic qi 303 307.
  • Suggests using the crew’s weaker cultivation as a defense by claiming that Spirit Transformation elders forced them to participate in criminal operations 355.
  • Uses a fifth-tier Swift Travel Talisman during an escape from pursuing elders 366.

Relationships

  • Chun Xiaobai — Initially a recruit under her guidance, then a supposed senior brother she admires. After learning his true identity, she becomes his unwilling confidante and cultivation instructor. Their association develops into practical cooperation, although she remains embarrassed by his bandit titles and worried about exposure 8 22 24 36 42. She later becomes his loyal Third Boss and develops a persistent romantic interest, aspiring to be the Stronghold Madam. She finds his strength and cunning reassuring, but his tendency to treat her as a brother repeatedly frustrates her. By the latest developments, he recognizes her attraction without establishing a reciprocated romantic relationship 205 255 273 475 476.
  • Fang Yuan — A senior fellow disciple who has quietly watched over her for years. He feels disappointed when she accepts Chun Xiaobai’s invitation but sets those feelings aside. He repeatedly encourages her to accept Chun’s gifts and acknowledge him as their boss 17 22 23 36. They later work together on ambushes, intelligence gathering, and financial affairs. He helps defend her custody of the crew’s funds against Lu Qingshan and eventually drags her away from her argument with Mu Qinglan 113 246 324 475.
  • Yun Huoyue — Her peak master. Bai Jin'er fears the consequences if Yun discovers Chun Xiaobai’s impersonation and explains how Yun’s noninterference leaves Green Bamboo Peak open to outsiders’ challenges 39 42. Yun later becomes a romantic rival: Cangshan Daoist identifies Bai Jin’er as her greatest competitor for Chun Xiaobai. Bai Jin’er pushes Yun away during one bashful approach, treating her behavior as an illness, and their competition for his attention continues 445 476.
  • Shi Lei — A challenger whose Storage Bag she holds as a stake in his duel with Chun Xiaobai, reluctantly becoming publicly associated with the contest 34.
  • Han Fei / Senior Brother Han — A highly ranked senior brother who previously protected her and pursued her. She insists there is nothing between them when he sends her an Inner Sect Direct Access Token. Chun Xiaobai destroys the token and warns Han away; Fang Yuan later suggests Han as a wealthy criminal suitable for their extortion scheme 206 304.
  • Xiao Zhang — Collaborates with her and Fang Yuan in luring disciples into ambushes. His Heavenly Baleful Valley affiliation initially frightens her, but she remains with the group. She later scolds him alongside Fang Yuan for leaving dangerous work to Chun Xiaobai 113 120 123.
  • Qin Ruoxue — A beauty whose presence contributes to Bai Jin’er’s romantic insecurity and determination to improve herself. During the hostage operation, Qin’s Soul-Suppressing Guide knocks Bai Jin’er unconscious and seals her divine soul; Chun Xiaobai determines that her life is not in danger 115 141 234.
  • Ye Liuli — Another perceived romantic rival whose appearance alarms Bai Jin’er. Ye’s intense killing aura intimidates her during the extortion of the captive women 132 140.
  • Gu Shuangshuang — A captive whom Bai Jin’er strips on Chun Xiaobai’s orders and slaps after she regains consciousness, helping intimidate her into recording a plea for ransom 139.
  • Lu Qingshan — Frequently clashes with him over money and loyalty, refusing to let him distribute funds before Chun Xiaobai returns and joining others in confronting or beating him. Their antagonism later gives way to cooperation in a secret, equally shared recruitment-commission scheme 324 332 369 403 407.
  • Bai Yutang — A fellow stronghold boss and collaborator in the spiritual-qi business. She initially resents his receiving public praise for opportunities created by Chun Xiaobai, but he joins Fang Yuan in defending her control of the crew’s funds 250 251 324.
  • Cangshan Daoist — Attempts to divine her destined husband after she provides her birth details. The calculation identifies Chun Xiaobai but causes the diviner to spit blood and age rapidly; he is carried away before explaining the result to her. She nevertheless believes he has genuine skill and suspects Chun Xiaobai is her ideal match 418.
  • Mu Qinglan — Recognizes Bai Jin’er’s commanding demeanor and considers that she might have been a promising future sect-master candidate. Bai Jin’er later regards Mu as an intrusive rival and strongly opposes Chun Xiaobai’s offer to make her Sixth Boss, leading to a heated argument 429 475.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Guiding the New Chore Disciples

Bai Jin'er brings Chun Xiaobai and over one hundred recruits to the back mountain rather than through the main gate. She explains that they must work for three years before receiving a beginner cultivation manual, distributes identity tokens, and warns them about enforcement checks. When Chun Xiaobai learns that food and housing are their own responsibility, she gives him flatbreads and tells him to prepare a vegetable garden 8 9.

Recognizing the Impostor

At the Merit Transmission Hall, she recognizes Chun Xiaobai as the recent chore disciple. Fang Yuan’s praise persuades her that she has mistaken a powerful senior brother for someone else, and Chun reinforces that impression with a Foundation Establishment Pill. She subsequently tries to wake him during Gu Changfeng’s lecture, relays the elder’s request to return his robe, and cheers during his combat demonstrations 17 18 19 21.

Learning His Secret

At Chun Xiaobai’s summit residence, she activates the arrays and receives fifty Spirit-Gathering Pills. His request for help drawing qi exposes the contradiction in his supposed cultivation, allowing her to identify him again 23.

Chun admits that he is the bandit king and threatens to implicate her through the stolen pill if she exposes him. Frightened into secrecy, she teaches him cultivation basics. She later resolves to persuade him to leave once he enters the Dao, hoping to avoid discovery by the Disciplinary Hall 24 25.

Becoming the “Third Chief”

Chun publicly involves Bai Jin'er in his duel with Shi Lei by making her hold the wagered Storage Bags. After his victory, she opens the cave abode and accepts cultivation manuals as a reward. She begins calling him “Boss,” though she remains uncomfortable with the implication that she has become a bandit’s subordinate 34 35 36.

She guards his residence during his visit to Yun Huoyue and later explains how formal ranking challenges could replace waiting for challengers at home. Chun begins addressing her as “Third Chief” 39 42.

As the rewards increase, she becomes more invested in his success. She accepts a Storage Bag from his ranking-challenge profits and helps maintain his residence. At his request, she also sews a Night-Walking Garment, suspecting that he intends to go thieving; he rewards her work by giving her and Fang Yuan rooms in his Cave Abode 57 66 71.

When Disciplinary Disciples report that an infiltrating bandit cultivator robbed thirty disciples on Cinnabar Glow Peak, she connects the incident with Chun Xiaobai’s nighttime activity but does not expose him. Although initially frightened of accepting the stolen proceeds, she receives further resources from him 71 72.

Accompanying the Ranking Challenge

Bai Jin'er accompanies Chun Xiaobai to the arena but doubts that brute strength and surprise attacks will defeat ranked geniuses. His registration nearly exposes his chore-disciple identity, leaving her terrified until Elder Fu registers him by name without checking his token. She anxiously watches his match against Lu Mang and, after his victory, privately attributes the outcome to luck while feeling relieved that the ordeal is over 43 45 46 48.

Leaving the Mountain and Advancing Rapidly

After strengthening himself, Chun Xiaobai announces that he will take Bai Jin’er and Fang Yuan down the mountain to make a fortune and tells them to leave the Azure Cloud Sect despite its restrictions. She reluctantly agrees, wondering whether his generosity has influenced her decision. Their later plans still account for the value of the sect as a source of protection and reinforcements 74 76.

During this period, she consumes the pills he has given her and rises from fifth-level Qi Refining to the peak of the seventh level. Her rapid improvement and association with Chun Xiaobai provoke envy among former friends, as well as gossip accusing her of stealing Yun Huoyue’s man 76.

She joins the expedition toward the Ten Thousand Demon Mountain Range but is embarrassed to discover that she has the lowest cultivation in the ten-person team. Nevertheless, she contributes by keeping watch and identifying a third-tier spirit herb. After further cultivation, she reaches eighth-level Qi Refining and agrees to scout the dangerous Core Area using protective talismans 84 89 93.

Ambushes and Hostage Extortion

Bai Jin’er and Fang Yuan join Xiao Zhang in luring hundreds of disciples into Chun Xiaobai’s trap. After receiving shares of the captured Storage Bags, they go out again and help bring more than five hundred additional victims to him 113.

Learning that Xiao Zhang is a Heavenly Baleful Valley disciple initially leaves her terrified of the consequences of colluding with a Demon Sect member. Her desire to support and impress Chun Xiaobai nevertheless strengthens her resolve to remain with him 120.

Her role becomes more forceful when she scolds Fang Yuan and Xiao Zhang for accepting rewards while hesitating to deliver provocative recordings to the opposing camps. Her reprimand persuades them to undertake the mission, and Chun Xiaobai notices her increasingly commanding presence 123.

She also helps solve the problem of accessing captives’ sealed Storage Rings by explaining the relationship between divine sense imprints and spatial formations. Chun Xiaobai then applies his Heaven-Rending Hand to the problem 126 127.

When Chun Xiaobai captures Gu Shuangshuang, Qin Ruoxue, and Ye Liuli, Bai Jin’er helps move and strip the captives despite her jealousy and unease. She intimidates Gu Shuangshuang during the ransom-recording process, but Ye Liuli’s killing aura frightens her. Qin Ruoxue subsequently knocks her unconscious with the Soul-Suppressing Guide; the attack suppresses her divine soul without endangering her life 132 139 140 141.

Returning to the Sect and Entering the Inner Sect

Bai Jin’er explains the exceptional price of heaven-tier magical treasures and the alliance monopolies shaping the Eastern Region. Chun Xiaobai responds by deciding to return to the Azure Cloud Sect, take control of it, and rename it Black Wind Stronghold. She is stunned and worries that Lu Qingshan might report his extortion to the sect master 195 196.

Her feelings become clearer during the return journey. She recognizes Chun Xiaobai’s careful preparations and escape routes, while also becoming anxious about Yun Huoyue’s possible place in his plans. Later, she offers him a massage and is frustrated when he dismisses her, privately reflecting that his strength, appearance, and even his wickedness make her feel safe 197 205.

Han Fei sends her an Inner Sect Direct Access Token, prompting her to insist that there is nothing between them. Chun Xiaobai crushes it and declares that she belongs to him, which she interprets with pleasure. He then orders her and Fang Yuan to spend their wealth on the best pills and methods and reach Foundation Establishment quickly 206.

She invests ten million spirit stones and reaches Foundation Establishment with a stable aura and solid foundation. When the group registers for the Inner Sect, she and Fang Yuan receive white jade Command Tokens, although Chun Xiaobai’s missing registration again threatens to expose his origins. Afterward, she happily accepts the task of arranging his new room, viewing it as evidence that he does not consider her an outsider 234 236 240.

Managing the Spiritual-Qi Business

Bai Jin’er participates in the establishment and operation of Chun Xiaobai’s profitable cultivation business. She and Fang Yuan obtain an Inner Sect Celebrity Directory for his brand-ambassador plan, and she later joins Fang Yuan and Bai Yutang in selling entry tickets 246 250.

She protests when Bai Yutang receives public praise for opportunities created by Chun Xiaobai, but Chun tells her to concentrate on protecting their money. She also distributes bonuses and receives orders to improve the food and add amenities, including a rocking chair and swimming pool, to the temporary stronghold branch 251 254.

Her suggestion that the stronghold needs a bandit queen backfires when Chun Xiaobai treats it as a general marriage-planning problem rather than a hint about her. She breaks down after realizing that he has developed brotherly affection for her, then resolves that the Stronghold Madam’s position must be hers 254 255.

She begins preparing potent tonic soups for him and increases the dosage when they seem ineffective. The soups improve her cooking, but Chun Xiaobai develops excessive internal heat and later seeks professional treatment from the Saintess. A subsequent attempt to pursue him physically ends with him protesting that he considers her a brother, leaving her embarrassed and hurt 258 265 273.

Despite the romantic setbacks, her service remains profitable: Chun Xiaobai rewards her with two hundred and twenty million spirit stones. When the business becomes dangerous, he insists that she escape first while he brings up the rear. They later reunite, and she describes their meeting as fate, only to be rebuffed again 278 291 301.

Impersonating Emperor Pavilion Emissaries

Chun Xiaobai recruits Bai Jin’er and Fang Yuan into a scheme involving the Black Flame Blade’s demonic qi. Although both initially fear the Emperor Pavilion’s reaction, they accept his plan to mark wealthy criminals with demonic qi and then impersonate emissaries demanding payment 303.

The preparations include considering Han Fei as a target and dressing in black clothing and hoods for an operation inside the Inner Sect. Bai Jin’er also helps support the recruitment of Lu Qingshan, displaying her expensive equipment as evidence of the profits available 304 307 311 315.

During the Ten Thousand Flowers Sect operation, she becomes distraught when Lu Qingshan suggests that Chun Xiaobai may have been overwhelmed by the sect’s women. She refuses to let anyone divide the money before Chun returns, with Fang Yuan and Bai Yutang backing her against Lu. When Chun finally appears, she tries to embrace him but is held at arm’s length 322 324 331.

Afterward, she helps confront Lu Qingshan over his complaints and divides twenty billion spirit stones into four five-billion shares. Her loyalty to Chun Xiaobai and insistence on protecting his interests increasingly place her at the center of the crew’s financial disputes 332.

Expanding the Crew and Surviving Sect Operations

As stronger elders join the operations, Bai Jin’er proposes that they can be blamed as principal offenders because their superior cultivation makes a coercion narrative plausible. She also suggests reducing their payments, although Chun Xiaobai rejects the reduction so that his companions can cultivate more quickly 355 356.

The group’s increasingly dangerous jobs force her to rely on expensive protection. At the Heavenly Gang Sect, she and her companions deploy multiple layers of Half-Step Heaven-Tier armor against a devastating shock wave. Chun Xiaobai returns to help her escape, then orders her and Fang Yuan to flee while he holds off the pursuers. They use fifth-tier Swift Travel Talismans as he survives the elders’ combined attack through the Martial God Tower 365 366.

She asks for rest before the next operation, but Chun Xiaobai rejects the request and targets the Cold Abyss Sect. After another dangerous encounter, she is delighted to be carried away in his arms and interprets his rescue as proof that he cannot bear to leave her behind; he angrily dismisses the interpretation 370 374.

Her cultivation is later explicitly confirmed at Golden Core. Wanting to become worthy of Chun Xiaobai, she has spent more than ten billion spirit stones on top-grade medicines for cultivation and physique refinement. She subsequently worries, alongside Fang Yuan and Bai Yutang, whether Chun Xiaobai can control the eighty Azure Cloud Sect Grand Supreme Elders recruited for a larger operation 377 385.

Secret Commissions and Treasure Management

Bai Jin’er and Lu Qingshan arrange to split recruitment commissions equally. After the Flying Yang Sect operation produces five hundred billion spirit stones, she approves his plan to take three hundred million from each recruit’s payment, hands him a Storage Ring for distribution, and insists that the arrangement remain secret. She then counts sixty-five billion spirit stones and anticipates further profits from the province’s remaining sects 403 407.

She also accompanies Chun Xiaobai on private shopping trips as they pass through new provinces, helping him accumulate heaven-tier magical artifacts for cultivation 410.

Her growing authority is noticed by Mu Qinglan, who considers that Bai Jin’er has the bearing of a woman in charge and might have been cultivated as a future sect-master candidate under different circumstances. Bai Jin’er later consults an ancient book to recognize the supreme-treasure-level value of a ninth-tier pill formula and helps present and account for the group’s recovered treasures 429 438 445.

Pursuing the Stronghold Madam’s Position

Bai Jin’er asks Cangshan Daoist to locate her destined love. His divination identifies Chun Xiaobai but causes a severe backlash, and he is carried away before he can explain the result. Bai Jin’er nevertheless concludes that Chun Xiaobai fits the description of her ideal husband and remains convinced that the diviner possesses real ability 418.

Cangshan later warns Yun Huoyue that Bai Jin’er is her greatest romantic rival. When Yun approaches Chun Xiaobai bashfully, Bai Jin’er pushes her away, interpreting her behavior as illness 445.

Still frustrated by Chun Xiaobai’s interest in other women, Bai Jin’er asks whether he finds her pretty and privately resolves that she will not be inferior once she has fully grown. She then suggests spending their enormous fortune on treasures, prompting a large shopping expedition; she is the only member missing at the initial regrouping three days later, though she subsequently reappears with the companions 455 467.

Her insecurity briefly leads her to wonder whether Chun Xiaobai prefers men after seeing his concern for Xiao Zhang. Nevertheless, when Chun later says that he will need a Stronghold Madam, she again believes her constant proximity gives her a substantial chance of securing the position 467 475.

She confronts Mu Qinglan as an outsider and opposes Chun Xiaobai’s proposal to make her Sixth Boss, listing Mu’s schemes, extortion, and flattery as faults. The argument escalates until Chun shouts at both women and Fang Yuan pulls Bai Jin’er away. By the following chapter, Chun explicitly recognizes her persistent attraction and notices that Yun Huoyue is competing with her for his affections 475 476.
