Little Mountain Peak Is Full of Monsters, but My Azure Cloud Peak Doesn't Keep Deadweight Either!
Back on Azure Cloud Peak, Ling Feng knelt obediently on the floor, with the unconscious Zu Yuan lying on a cushion beside him.
The two were in a small courtyard residence. In the seat of honor, an old man wearing a traditional jacket and holding a palm-leaf fan frowned deeply as he examined Zu Yuan.
This irreverent old man was none other than the current Sect Master of the Azure Cloud Sect.
Dongxu Zi!
Rumor had it that the Azure Cloud Sect's current leader possessed unfathomable strength and had even touched the threshold of the Immortal Realm!
"That brat Ouyang really said that?" Dongxu Zi asked, feeling a headache coming on.
Having already explained the entire incident, Ling Feng nodded, then bowed low in his kneeling position. "My cultivation is still shallow, and I failed to keep my junior brother safe. Please punish me, Master."
Looking at Ling Feng kneeling with his head lowered, Dongxu Zi sighed. "If things really happened as you said, I'm already surprised you managed to bring your junior brother back! You did very well. There isn't a single normal person on that peak!"
A Heavenly Dao Oath! Even if a cultivator actually swore one, attracting the Heavenly Dao's attention and obtaining its approval was beyond the ability of ordinary cultivators.
Did he think the Heavenly Dao was some cheap commodity found on every street? Could any stray cat or dog summon it to bear witness?
Only a deadly oath sworn by one Bearer of Great Fortune against another could possibly attract the Heavenly Dao's attention.
From another angle, this also proved that both Chen Changsheng and Zu Yuan were Bearers of Great Fortune acknowledged by the Heavenly Dao!
Dongxu Zi did not blame Ling Feng for failing to protect Zu Yuan.
Ling Feng had spent years cultivating on Azure Cloud Peak, never venturing beyond its gates. He turned a deaf ear to anything unrelated to cultivation, so naturally, he had no idea what sort of monsters lived on Little Mountain Peak!
Despite Dongxu Zi's words, Ling Feng stubbornly refused to raise his head.
Dongxu Zi could only say helplessly, "Since you insist on accepting punishment, go back and write out the Yellow Court Scripture from memory five hundred times."
"I shall obey your decree, Master!" Ling Feng answered, bowing low.
Dongxu Zi looked at Ling Feng with a pained expression. His disciple was good in every way, and his aptitude was decent enough. He was simply too upright-so upright that he sometimes backed himself into a dead-end alley of his own thinking.
Since childhood, this disciple had never left Azure Cloud Peak except for matters related to cultivation. To him, everything was always either black or white, as though he were an unstained white lotus.
A pill flew out of Dongxu Zi's sleeve. He dissolved its medicinal power with his true essence and sprinkled it over Zu Yuan.
Zu Yuan's pained expression eased back into calm, and his breathing grew considerably steadier.
With a wave of Dongxu Zi's hand, Zu Yuan vanished from the hall, leaving only Dongxu Zi and Ling Feng.
"Do you know what a Heavenly Dao Oath means?" Dongxu Zi asked.
"No rest until one side is dead!" Ling Feng answered.
"Then don't you suspect there might be something wrong with your junior brother?" Dongxu Zi asked.
Ling Feng shook his head. "You personally entrusted him to me, Master. I don't believe there could be anything wrong with him. There must be some misunderstanding!"
Ling Feng's reply left Dongxu Zi speechless. Only after a long moment did he ask, "If there really is something wrong with your junior brother, what would you do?"
"As his senior brother, I have a duty to lead him back onto the righteous path!" Ling Feng answered solemnly.
Dongxu Zi stared at Ling Feng in astonishment. He felt as though the boy was radiating Buddhist light. What a waste it was for him to cultivate the Dao-he should have become a monk!
If the Azure Cloud Sect really ends up in this brat's hands, it'll probably be wiped out within thirty years! What kind of disciples have I taken in? Depressed, Dongxu Zi waved at Ling Feng, signaling that he could get lost.
Ling Feng bowed and withdrew from his master's room, then headed straight for Zu Yuan's room.
"A Heavenly Dao Oath? But my divination was clearly right! What blood-deep grudge does that brat Ouyang's junior brother have against Zu Yuan?" After Ling Feng left, Dongxu Zi stroked his beard and muttered in bewilderment.
When Ling Feng opened the door to Zu Yuan's room, Zu Yuan had already awakened and was sitting cross-legged on the bed, regulating his breathing. Ling Feng watched him quietly without saying a word.
Only after a long while did Zu Yuan slowly open his eyes. He had forcibly raised his cultivation realm and slain three cultivators comparable to those in the Nascent Soul Realm in a single instant. Fighting above his level like that had severely damaged his meridians.
"How are you feeling, Junior Brother Zu Yuan?" Ling Feng's voice came from across the room. He sat quietly in a chair, watching Zu Yuan with a gentle, concerned gaze.
A flicker of malice flashed through Zu Yuan's eyes. If this white-lotus senior brother of mine hadn't sent me to deliver that letter, how would I have gotten hurt?
Even if he didn't do it deliberately, he still bears part of the blame!
Once I get my hands on the Azure Cloud Sect's legendary sect-guarding treasure, I'll slaughter every last person in the sect.
"Junior Brother Zu Yuan? Are you all right?" Ling Feng walked over in concern and reached out to feel Zu Yuan's forehead.
Zu Yuan shifted aside, avoiding Ling Feng's outstretched hand, and put on a smile. "Thank you for your concern, Senior Brother. I'm fine now. Thank you for saving my life today. I'll remember your kindness until my last tooth falls out!"
"Really? Until your last tooth falls out? Good!" Ling Feng's tone abruptly changed, like an icy wind scraping against bone.
The instant Ling Feng finished speaking, Zu Yuan felt the temperature around him plummet. He was just about to look up at Ling Feng when a hand brutally clamped around his throat and lifted him into the air.
Ling Feng narrowed his eyes, regarding Zu Yuan with something resembling a smile. All his usual warmth and gentleness had vanished, leaving only boundless cold. "Since you'll remember until your last tooth falls out, do you need me to help pull them all out, one by one?"
Every word struck Zu Yuan's heart like a sledgehammer. Though Ling Feng wore a smile, he radiated chilling menace.
"Senior Brother Ling Feng..." Zu Yuan struggled to force out the words as he tried to pry Ling Feng's hand away, but the hand around his neck was as unyielding as iron.
Ling Feng leaned close to Zu Yuan's ear and whispered softly, "Stop making trouble for me. If you enjoy inviting trouble, then deal with it yourself. This is the only time. If there's a next time, I'll tear you to pieces with my own hands!"
Zu Yuan nodded with difficulty, signaling that he understood.
Seeing him nod, Ling Feng tossed Zu Yuan onto the bed and looked at him with a cheerful smile. "Remember this! Little Mountain Peak is full of monsters, but my Azure Cloud Peak doesn't keep deadweight either! Three hundred copies of the Yellow Court Scripture. Hand them over before tomorrow!"
