A guest room in the Governor's Office.

Outside the window, daylight had fully broken, and sunlight spilled through the lattice onto the floor.

A faint, fresh fragrance of medicinal herbs filled the air.

Wang Jingxian slowly came to. The first thing she felt was an ache in every part of her body, as though she had fallen apart. She struggled to lift her eyelids, and as her vision gradually cleared, she saw the familiar canopy above her bed.

She turned her head slightly and discovered a plump parrot lying beside her bed, its snowy feathers soft and fluffy. Bored out of its mind, it was fiddling with its tail feathers with one claw, occasionally rolling over to expose its soft belly. It looked utterly endearing.

Wang Jingxian recognized the spirit bird. She had seen it when she first met Lu Changfeng at the Liu Family estate.

Instinctively, she reached out to stroke those seemingly soft feathers.

Snow Robe, however, was exceedingly alert. Just as her fingers were about to touch the bird, Snow Robe sprang up. Those black-bean eyes darted about, saw that she was awake, and immediately the bird fluttered into the air, squawking at the top of its lungs, "Master! Master! She's awake!"

The voice carried through the door into the outer room.

Before long, Lu Changfeng walked in carrying a Celadon Medicine Bowl.

He still wore his blue robe, and his face looked slightly tired, but his gaze was gentle and calm. Seeing Wang Jingxian's eyes open, he smiled. "You're awake? How do you feel?"

He went to the bedside, set the medicine bowl on a low table nearby, and naturally placed his fingers on her wrist to take her pulse.

Wang Jingxian's face was still pale and bloodless, but some vitality had returned to her eyes.
