The instant the heavy dart touched Zephros, a massive psionic backlash erupted.
An invisible force field spread outward from Zephros, not only twisting the steel dart into scrap but also sending countless metal fragments hurtling toward Renato.
But the moment Renato threw the dart, Klauthsura grabbed his shoulder and deactivated the interference Array Patterns.
Psionic light instantly enveloped them both. The space around them began to warp, stretch, and spin. The next moment, Renato found himself amid a chaotic swirl of light.
Renato felt as though he had been stuffed into a narrow pipe, with everything around him spinning wildly. Up, down, left, and right lost all meaning. Gravity lurched and reversed, a piercing hum filled his ears, and his vision was nothing but patches of brilliant color.
This was Renato's first real experience of Psionics Teleportation. For someone with senses as keen as his, it was worse than torture.
Dizziness blurred Renato's sense of time. He had no idea how long had passed before the two of them tumbled out of a portal.
Renato staggered to his feet, fighting nausea that felt just like seasickness.
Stars danced before his eyes, and his stomach churned violently. Only after several deep breaths did he barely suppress the urge to vomit.
The crystal ball in Klauthsura's hand lit up again, activating the interference Array Patterns. But a glance around revealed that no new portals were opening. The Elder Brain had clearly realized something was wrong and stopped sending in more slaves and mind flayers.
"Zephros set up dozens of Contingency spells on itself in advance." Klauthsura's voice sounded in Renato's mind again. "Most attacks are pointless. You should have thrown that longsword of yours. Since its runes can nullify spells, you might have settled this in a single strike."
