[Quest] Help Selena Darktide reach 'White Harbor' safely. Payment: one gemstone. [Quest description] The sea was sometimes gentle and generous, sometimes cruel and merciless. To survive in these waters, every living creature had to fight with everything it had-for food, territory, and faith. There was no room for compromise. Vendettas and plunder were the oldest laws of the Sea of a Thousand Islands, and blood debts between its peoples accumulated from generation to generation. Forced to cross these perilous waters alone, Selena Darktide had to find her kin on land and awaken their long-forgotten 'responsibility.' 'White Harbor' happened to be one of her destinations. Quest reward: 2,500 experience points.

Captain De Leon immediately made his position clear in response to Renato's forceful 'question.'

He barely hesitated before announcing that he would leave Selena entirely in the hands of this mysterious nobleman from the Empire. Then he turned and climbed the companionway, waving at the sailors to dismiss them and send everyone back to their posts.

Seeing the captain act so decisively, the first mate and second mate followed him out. No one wasted another word.

Renato watched De Leon disappear around the bend in the stairs and inwardly nodded.

The man was smart enough to know which way the wind was blowing, and Renato had always liked dealing with smart people.

Renato did not consider himself afflicted with some pathological need for control-or power, for that matter. As long as his own interests remained untouched, he really did not care who made the decisions aboard the ship. Things could stay as they were.

That was why he had initially had no intention of disrupting their 'voting' tradition, which ostensibly let everyone decide together while actually leaving the outcome entirely under the captain's control.
