At the front desk of Fragrant Words, Renato paid the monthly rent of 20 silver coins.
Watching the attendant enthusiastically introduce the various facilities and services, he couldn't help thinking of the indifferent half-elf he had dealt with before.
When it came to service, you really did get what you paid for. An upscale inn certainly offered a different experience.
"Why did you pay right away? Didn't we agree to look at a few more places before deciding?"
Perly handed him 10 silver coins and muttered:
"This place doesn't really feel like a proper inn to me. Aren't all the attendants a little too young...?"
"What are you talking about? I chose it because it's close to both the Grand Library and the Security Department. It's convenient for getting around." Renato unlocked the door. "Besides, only 20 Silver Crowns a month is already a bargain. I've stayed here before, and it was good."
"Only 20 Silver Crowns... I never thought we'd use that word to describe accommodation at this price."
The little mage took off her loose mage robe, revealing a dark blue wool sweater.
"I still remember our first commission in the city. I borrowed 10 Silver Crowns from you to learn Snare, and it seemed like such a huge amount of money..."
"Hmm, why is the room so warm? I don't see a fireplace."
"This inn has central heating. There's a Central Furnace Room underground that heats every room through flues," Renato explained, touching the warm wall. "The flues run inside the walls, heating the entire structure without letting any smoke in."
Perly shed another layer, leaving her in a white linen shirt and close-fitting cotton trousers.
"Renato, what are you going to do about the Tournament the day after tomorrow?"
"What else? Win the championship, of course.
