Background / History
Lin Jing travels with Lin Diao to gain experience away from home. People belonging to factions in the Martial Realm already know who she is, but she develops her friendship with Yun Mo and Wen Qingxuan without fully revealing that identity 89 98.
She tells her companions that she comes from the Ice Spirit Clan. When Lin Diao later points out that she never told them who she really is, she explains that she intends to surprise them at their next meeting and trusts that they will not distance themselves from her 66 98.
Her journey ends when Lin Diao receives instructions from her father to bring her home. She protests that she prefers training outside, but ultimately leaves after promising to reunite with her friends 98.
Appearance
- Natural appearance: A poised, graceful young girl, slightly younger than Yun Mo and Wen Qingxuan 62.
- Distinguishing features: Fair skin, delicate brows, and bright eyes repeatedly described as starry 66 90 98.
- Male disguise: Uses a translucent Profound Spirit Stone to assume a male appearance, including a slightly protruding Adam’s apple 89.
- Infiltration clothing: Wears black robes alongside her companions during their nighttime raid and subsequent escape 82 83 89.
Personality
Lin Jing is lively, openhearted, and mischievous, with keen senses and considerable intelligence. Her enthusiasm draws Yun Mo into activities such as Mystic Stone gambling, while her teasing frequently makes him the target of their group’s banter 66 69 89.
She is generous with cultivation resources, initially treating her valuable Ancestral Spirit Stones as insignificant gifts. Although she owns costly materials, she is unfamiliar with their market value and admits that she has never used Spirit Coins 63 67.
Her playfulness coexists with a competitive streak and anger toward dishonest opponents. She challenges Yun Mo to spar, vows to find a counter to his technique after losing, and eagerly pursues retaliation against the natives who manipulate the stone forest’s treasures. Nevertheless, she accepts his advice to retreat when a direct confrontation would be dangerous 66 82 86.
She deeply values Yun Mo and Wen Qingxuan as two of her few friends. Her concern becomes especially clear after Yun Mo is injured, when she urgently asks Lin Diao to examine him 89 97 98.
Abilities & Skills
Talisman Crafting and Control
Lin Jing creates and deploys talismans that command elemental forces and draw on surrounding spiritual energy 68.
- Early aptitude: Says she could complete the talisman Yun Mo struggles with when she was three years old 91.
- Linked attacks: Directs talismans toward an array’s crucial points, then merges them so their effects compensate for one another’s weaknesses 68.
- Array breaking: Destroys Tang He’s fourth-grade Ghostly Soul Baleful Spirit Array with linked talismans and a newly crafted ice-blue talisman 67 68.
- Pursuit disruption: Supplies Wen Qingxuan with explosive talismans to slow Hua Gao; stronger ice talismans damage his spiritual-energy defenses 89.
- Combat superiority: Overwhelms the opposing talisman master’s attacks and injures Jian Yuan with a talisman explosion 94.
Ice Techniques and Swordsmanship
Lin Jing combines cold-based attacks, sword intent, and talismans rather than relying on a blade alone 65 87 94.
- Turns talismans into ice swords, then gathers the surrounding cold onto one blade to release an ice-blue arc of Sword Aura 65.
- Uses sword intent alongside Wen Qingxuan’s spear intent to tear apart a defensive encirclement 87.
- Layers her small divine sword’s light with talismans to attack multiple opponents 94.
- Creates a lightning-wreathed ice sword that pierces Qu Liang’s right shoulder, pins him to the city wall, and causes the wall’s sixth-grade Spirit Array to begin collapsing 94.
- Cannot yet unleash the gifted divine sword’s full power when preparing for the Fourth City battle 93.
Spatial Awareness and Movement
- Detects that the Phoenix Blood Pool lies in a gap between spaces 62.
- Uses exceptionally high-quality spatial Ancestral Spirit Stones to let her group enter that concealed space 62 63.
- Follows Yun Mo into an illusory space during their spar, preventing his initial evasive movement from ending the exchange 66.
Devouring Power
- Draws surrounding cold onto her sword during combat 65.
- Releases a devouring force in an attempt to replenish what Yun Mo’s Momentary Eternity removes 66.
- Limit: The attempt does not overcome Momentary Eternity. Yun Mo temporarily reduces her cultivation to the Heaven Fusion Realm and wins their spar 66.
Treasure Tracking and Concealment
- Uses her Treasure Hunting Bug, guided by Yun Mo’s remembered sensation, to locate the Heavenly Evolution Divine Stone beneath the great hall 83.
- Uses the bug again to guide the group toward the hidden spiritual-vein cache 87.
- Tracking limit: The bug is weak enough that discovery could expose the infiltrators, so she waits until they have narrowed the search area before releasing it 83.
- Combines her talismans with the group’s black robes and an illusion to conceal their nighttime infiltration 83.
- Maintains a male disguise while hiding in Fourth City 89 91 92.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Spatial Ancestral Spirit Stones — High-quality cultivation resources containing spatial mysteries; she shares them to help her companions reach the Blood Pool 62 63.
- Ice-blue longsword — Wielded during the confrontation with the Heavenly Evolution Stone Forest’s guards 81 82.
- Naturally formed divine sword — A small, luminous white sword given to her by Yun Mo. Its Innate Spirit Array allows continued growth, with the possibility of eventually becoming a top-tier Divine Artifact or Sacred Artifact 90 93.
- Spiritual talismans — Includes elemental, explosive, ice-based, and concealment talismans; she crafts additional talismans while staying in Fourth City 68 83 89 91.
- Profound Spirit Stone — Changes her appearance into that of a man 89.
- Treasure Hunting Bug — Tracks subtle disturbances and traces of aura; particularly likes Yun Mo’s Nightglow Honey 83 91.
- Supreme Spirit Liquid — Collects ten jade bottles during the storehouse raid, each containing approximately one hundred drops 88 90.
Relationships
- Yun Mo — Close friend, traveling companion, and sparring rival. She unsuccessfully teaches him talisman-making; he gives her the naturally formed divine sword 66 90 91.
- Wen Qingxuan — Close friend whom she calls “Sister Qingxuan.” Their partnership develops from shared travel and combat into an explicitly acknowledged friendship 62 65 90.
- Lin Diao / Uncle Diao — Affectionate elder who has watched her grow up and accompanies her outing. She asks him to save Yun Mo, then leaves with him at her father’s request 97 98.
- Uncle Yan — Elder whose advice she recalls while traveling. She also intends to consult him about countering Momentary Eternity 66 89.
- Her father — Previously traveled the road she hopes to retrace; sends word instructing Lin Diao to bring her home 98.
