"Good! That's what we'll do!"
Lin Shigong slapped the table, a spark of hope finally flaring in his lifeless eyes.
They had prepared to go down with the enemy because they had no choice.
Everyone had held fast at the Command Center not because they were unafraid of death, much less because they wanted to play the hero.
Someone had to keep a constant watch on the front line and every sudden development that might bring everything crashing down.
If communications went down, who would restore them?
If the Burrowing Earth Dragon changed direction, who would order troops to block it?
If the bomb failed to detonate, who would fix it and serve as the second detonation failsafe?
With these deadly "what-ifs," even the slightest misstep meant total defeat.
So they had to stay nailed to this spot, and even if they died, it had to be in front of the console where they could press the detonation button.
But now they had a way out!
The Antimatter Bomb would be moved forward into the tunnel, putting the detonation point a full three or four kilometers from the Underground City.
With tens of millions of tonnes of rock between them serving as a bulletproof vest, there was no need for them to die in the same pit as the Demon God.
Who the hell would want to become a martyr if they could stay on their feet and survive?
"Move out, now!"
Lin Shigong swept his arm outward, his gaze passing over everyone present.
"Dismantle the Command Terminal, communications equipment, backup batteries, all of it, and take it with us!"
"Send another team to the quartermaster's storehouse. Water, compressed rations, first aid kits, oxygen tanks-take plenty! As much as you can!"
"Where are we retreating to?" the adjutant asked urgently.
