Capital City Base.
Capital City was completely different from what it had been three months ago.
The city now housed everyone from Capital City and several surrounding cities, as well as migrants from farther afield. Despite the sheer number of people, the Special Affairs Office maintained good order, allowing them to focus on building the base.
Their construction speed had always been staggering, and this time, countless superpower people had joined the effort.
In just three months, Capital City Base had begun to take shape.
The whole city resembled a technological fortress rising from scorched earth. From a distance, it looked like countless upturned bowls, with layer upon layer of protective measures covering an immense area.
There were six floors aboveground and another six below. Roads crisscrossed between the upturned bowls, their brilliant lights seeming bright enough to illuminate the entire sky.
Capital City Base had six entrances: two underground exits outside the base and four aboveground exits, one in each cardinal direction.
The south-facing entrance was the main gate.
Towering buildings, futuristic silver walls, twin-winged guard towers, and several aerial monitoring stations surrounded the reassuring words-
Capital City Base.
For the first three months after the fires began, the sun had been merciless, and people had stayed indoors by day and come out at night.
But three days ago, black clouds formed by the burning had begun to obscure the sun, and visibility kept dropping even during the day.
Everyone knew rain was coming.
Construction had recently switched to two shifts. Many people worked around the clock, yet no one complained.
Because they were building their own home.
At a construction site in the south, people worked while glancing southward.
"Is Group B of the Special Affairs Office coming back today?"
"That's what the radio said. This is wonderful.
