The next morning.
Wu Li returned to the Criminal Investigation Bureau in high spirits.
However,
His subordinate reported in terror, "W-Wu... Brother Wu... something terrible happened."
"Those two brats are ruthless. Last night, while everyone else was asleep, they smothered an entire room of people with pillows."
"What the fuck?"
The group rushed into the detention cell, frantic and red-faced. The sight inside was something Wu Li would never forget.
Little White Tiger and Old Ninth squatted on the beds, holding instant noodles.
A dozen or so corpses lay strewn across the floor.
Seeing Wu Li, Little White Tiger grinned. "Morning, Brother Wu. Eaten yet?"
"Nothing beats instant noodles soaked in ice water. Takes me right back to my childhood."
The two brothers ate with relish.
Wu Li's face darkened like a thundercloud.
"Brother Wu, several of these prisoners were due in court tomorrow."
A subordinate forced himself to report.
An entire room of prisoners had died overnight. That meant more than a dozen cases could not be adjudicated.
If their superiors held them accountable, they would all be in trouble.
"I fucking know!"
Wu Li roared furiously.
Just then, someone reported from the doorway.
"Brother Wu, Little White Tiger's lawyer is here."
"Dammit, they're serious offenders. No lawyers allowed."
Wu Li glared viciously at the pair. "Now that you're in here, don't even think about getting out."
"Is that so?"
Tap, tap, tap.
The sound of leather shoes approached.
"Hello, I'm Lawyer Jun from Junting Law Firm. I'd like to see my clients now."
A middle-aged man in an immaculate suit strode into the detention room, his hair meticulously combed and his expression stern.
"Who let you in?"
Startled, Wu Li hurried forward to stop him.
If the man saw the scene inside, they would be in for it.
