Ch. 41Another Direction

Su Tianyu and his companions cleared the Third Floor warehouse while Uncle Yang considered how to protect Tang Baiqing from the murder case. The chapter ended with Su Tianyu, Bai Hongbo, and Zhang Hao arriving at the Zhannan Police Division as Wei Xiangzuo heard about Tang Baiqing’s arrest.

  • Su Tianyu called Yu Mingyuan, who told him to wait for the police to leave before removing the speedboats and equipment from the backyard.
  • Su Tianyu realized Big Bear might be involved in the investigation, and Uncle Yang reviewed Big Bear’s statement and questioned him about his family.
  • Uncle Yang told Tang Baiqing’s father that Big Bear’s intellectual impairment complicated the case, then quietly proposed steering it in another direction.
  • Wei Xiangzuo heard that Tang Baiqing was involved in a death at the warehouse and that the Gang Leader had wanted to see him.
  • After clearing the warehouse, Su Tianyu drove with Bai Hongbo and Zhang Hao to the entrance of the Zhannan Police Division.

Ch. 42How much is your son worth?

Tang Baiqing's Father offered Wu Shixiong's parents money to have their son take the blame for the death, and Father Wu accepted the proposal enough to ask him directly. Su Tianyu and Bai Hongbo were kept from seeing Wu Shixiong, leaving the truth of the arrangement hidden from them.

  • Uncle Yang led Father Wu and Mother Wu outside and introduced them to Tang Baiqing's Father, who drove them away from the police station to talk privately.
  • Tang Baiqing's Father described how Wu Shixiong could receive a reduced sentence and offered Father Wu a hundred thousand for every year their son served in place of his own son.
  • Father Wu and Mother Wu returned to the investigations building with troubled expressions while Uncle Yang watched them.
  • An officer refused to let Su Tianyu and Bai Hongbo see Wu Shixiong, so they went back outside to wait.
  • Uncle Yang brought Wu Shixiong's parents into the interview room after an officer shut off the surveillance cameras.
  • Father Wu asked Wu Shixiong to take the blame for the case, and Wu Shixiong was stunned to hear his father call him son.

Ch. 43Life was absurd-if only it were all a dream

Big Bear agreed to take responsibility for Qu Ying’s death after his parents pressured him, and the Tang Family arranged a deal to protect Tang Baiqing. As Big Bear was sent to prison and the case was closed, Su Tianyu learned the sea shipment was ready, while a man on an island asked about Su Dake.

  • Father Wu and his wife persuaded Big Bear to accept a prison sentence in exchange for money to help his brothers, then signed an agreement with Tang Baiqing’s father.
  • Su Tianyu learned from Yu Mingyuan that Big Bear was taking the fall for Tang Baiqing and visited him before his transfer, but Big Bear said he could not refuse his parents.
  • Uncle Yang coached Big Bear to describe Qu Ying’s attack and his own injuries, while Tang Baiqing gave a statement supporting that account.
  • At the Police Bureau Hospital, officers photographed Big Bear’s many old scars and recorded him as Wu Shixiong, age nineteen, suspected of homicide.
  • A week later, Tang Baiqing returned to work, Yu Mingyuan told Su Tianyu the case was over and the shipment was ready, and a man on an island asked another about Su Dake.

Ch. 44Speedboats at sea

Su Tianyu’s cargo pickup turned into an ambush at sea, and he rushed to the hijacking site after Zhang Hao’s distress call. He found the boats and cargo gone, with the workers left struggling in the water.

  • Su Tianyu visited Big Bear in detention and deposited money and supplies for him.
  • Su Tianyu organized the night’s cargo pickup from a rented courtyard near Haiyan Pit and sent Zhang Hao out with twenty men in seven speedboats.
  • Masked men in five or six speedboats surrounded Zhang Hao’s boats and ordered the crews to stop.
  • When Zhang Hao tried to radio Su Tianyu, a masked leader shot him in the leg with a speargun and forced the crews to surrender.
  • Su Tianyu reached the hijacking site and found more than a dozen workers in the water, while the boats, cargo, Zhang Hao, and the others had disappeared.

Ch. 45Tang Baiqing's Suggestion

After the cargo and five men were seized at sea, Tang Baiqing advised Yu Mingyuan that he should give the Dock Gang a share of the freight business, potentially removing the Su, Bai, and Kong Three Families. The chapter ended with Zhang Hao and the others beaten and imprisoned in submerged dog cages as Zhang Hao began to reveal that he recognized their captors.

  • Yu Mingyuan took Su Tianyu to meet Tang Baiqing after learning that masked men had hijacked their cargo and abducted the crew.
  • Tang Baiqing said the Dock Gang denied involvement and suggested the hijackers might be criminals seeking ransom.
  • Tang Baiqing told Yu Mingyuan that the Dock Gang wanted at least twenty percent of the sea freight business and advised him to use them for hauling instead of the Su, Bai, and Kong Three Families.
  • Yu Mingyuan refused to discuss changing the business arrangement before finding the cargo and the abducted men, and Tang Baiqing agreed to press the Dock Gang for information.
  • Zhang Hao and the other four men were beaten, locked in dog cages, and thrown into a saltwater pond, where Zhang Hao said he knew who their captors were.

Ch. 46Were you the ones who snatched our haul?

After the cargo and crew disappeared, Su Tianyu and Yu Mingyuan investigated whether the Dock Gang or Lu Feng’s Changqing Company was responsible. Lu Feng denied involvement, and Su Tianyu began to suspect someone wanted to force a change in the business shares; the chapter ended with Tang Baiqing reporting that armed outsiders had taken the shipment and the Dock Gang refusing to mediate without a reason.

  • Yu Mingyuan told Su Tianyu to investigate both the Dock Gang and Lu Feng’s Changqing Company while everyone waited at the dump for news of the missing crew and cargo.
  • Su Tiannan located Lu Feng at Qiu Mountain Temple, and Su Tianyu sent Bai Hongbo and Li Tao to question him while he waited below with Kong Zhenghui.
  • Lu Feng denied taking the shipment, said Changqing Company did not target business beyond its own turf, and suggested that people who made their living at sea could know more about the raid.
  • Su Tianyu reasoned that the kidnappers might be targeting the business shares and asked Kong Zhenghui about his contacts at the docks.
  • Tang Baiqing told Yu Mingyuan that armed criminals from outside Dragon City had taken the cargo for a large payout, but Xu Hu questioned why the Dock Gang should help arrange talks.

Ch. 47One of two choices

Yu Mingyuan weighed the Dock Gang’s pressure against his existing alliance, while Su Tianyu urged him to prioritize recovering the detained men and hinted he would retaliate if they were not returned. The chapter ended with Kong Zhenghui hiring a man to locate seven speedboats.

  • Tang Baiqing urged Yu Mingyuan to replace the Su, Bai, and Kong Three Families with the Dock Gang, promising the gang could protect his shipping operation and help recover the cargo.
  • Yu Mingyuan suspected the Dock Gang had orchestrated the hijacking and struggled to choose between accepting its terms and risking his cargo, men, and shipping routes.
  • Su Tianyu showed Yu Mingyuan estimates for expanding their sales channels and warned that the Dock Gang was not one of their own.
  • Su Tianyu gave Tang Baiqing two days to find the detained men before he took matters into his own hands, and Yu Mingyuan left the company after him.
  • Near the docks, Kong Zhenghui paid a shifty-eyed man to locate seven speedboats within one night.

Ch. 48No word at all

Yu Mingyuan decided to negotiate with the Dock Gang over his seized shipment, while Kong Zhenghui and Su Tianyu found no leads on the missing speedboats and considered a direct approach. The chapter ended with Su Tianyu calling someone.

  • At breakfast, Yu Mingyuan told Yu Jinrong that the company’s shipment had been hijacked and workers taken hostage, but said he could handle it without help.
  • Yu Mingyuan called Tang Baiqing and agreed to meet him and then the Dock Gang that evening.
  • Xu Hu invited Wei Xiangzuo to the meeting with Yu Mingyuan, but Wei declined and advised Xu Hu to help release the workers if Yu Mingyuan paid his dues.
  • A dockworker told Kong Zhenghui he could find no information about seven speedboats, even after asking contacts outside the district.
  • Su Tianyu said the lack of information was itself significant, then called someone to pursue a more direct approach.

Ch. 49Six set the board

Su Tianyu prepared to recover his people and cargo from the Dock Gang while Yu Mingyuan negotiated with them. Kong Zhenghui identified two crew bosses under Xu Hu, and Su Tianyu faced a decision about carrying out the plan.

  • Su Tianyu asked Kong Zhenghui to investigate the Dock Gang, then explained the danger to Su Zhengcai and outlined a plan to recover the people and cargo.
  • Su Zhengcai agreed to seek help from Wang Daolin, who questioned why he should get involved but considered Su Zhengcai's offer of support.
  • Su Tianyu gathered Kong Zhenghui, Su Tianbei, Bai Hongbo, and family members at the warehouse yard, where Bai Hongbo hesitated to join the operation.
  • Yu Mingyuan met Tang Baiqing before heading to a restaurant in Zhannan District.
  • Kong Zhenghui learned that Guo Lin and Feng Hai were Xu Hu's crew bosses and asked Su Tianyu whether he would go through with the plan.

Ch. 50A finger

Yu Mingyuan met Xu Hu to negotiate the return of his men and cargo, but Xu Hu demanded a stake in the maritime business and threatened the Su, Bai, and Kong families. Xu Hu had Zhang Hao’s finger cut off and sent to the Su Family, prompting Su Zhengcai to set out himself.

  • Yu Mingyuan offered Xu Hu a fee to recover his people and cargo, but Xu Hu insisted on taking a share of the business.
  • Xu Hu ordered Xu Er to have Old Lei cut off a finger from the leader of the Su Family crew and send it to the Su Family.
  • Xu Er cut off Zhang Hao’s little finger while Zhang Hao was being held in a warehouse.
  • Kong Zhenghui arrived at Tianhong Civil Harbor in a van and said he was expecting a call from his friend.
  • Su Zhengcai and Su Tiannan found Zhang Hao’s finger and a warning demanding that the Su Family give up its shares.
  • Su Zhengcai blamed Yu Mingyuan for failing to protect them and said he would go himself.
