Late at night, pedestrians were scarce on the streets, and most shops had already closed.
Mumu led the way, his face beaming with joy, and replied firmly, "Though these are chaotic times, we Buddhist disciples are all saving the world and doing good deeds. I've never heard of any demonic monk..."
"Then have you heard of any eminent monks whose way of thinking and acting is rather unconventional?" Ren Ye asked again.
"No. We Buddhist disciples are all saving the world and doing good deeds..."
"All right, all right, stop. I get it." Ren Ye felt helpless. He could see it now: this little monk was a pure believer. Apart from being quick to break the precept against taking a wife, he remained steadfast in everything else.
To him, the Buddhist path was sacred and offered salvation to all gods. How could it have anything to do with demons?
At that point, neither said anything more. Mumu walked faster and faster, his face filled with joy, while Ren Ye followed closely.
After another three or four minutes, the two turned into a small street together.
Ren Ye looked up and surveyed the surroundings. The little street was called Zhen'nan Street, and it appeared to be in the old district. Many residential buildings stood right along the street and lacked any relatively formal property management, making the area feel crowded and cramped.
"Almost there. My home's just ahead." Mumu pointed at a relatively new building near the intersection not far away. "I reckon by now... my wife and the others...!"
"Hm?"
No sooner had he spoken than both stopped, their expressions turning grave.
Ren Ye instantly sensed a Star Source Fluctuation he found deeply repellent coming from the building Mumu had pointed at.
Thud!
