Jin Bi involuntarily fell silent.
"Huff... huff..."
Only then did she hear the beast's panting, right behind her.
"Lu Mi..." she asked. "What's behind me?"
Lu Mi didn't answer. To Jin Bi's astonishment, he released his grip on the edge of the ground. "Are you insane?!"
Yet Lu Mi didn't fall into the sea of fire as she had hoped.
A gentle wind held him up, leaving him hovering effortlessly in midair-

His earlier pretense of being on the verge of death had merely been an attempt to pry information about Shen Yiwen out of her.
The thought had barely crossed her mind when an intense pain shot through her waist. Then the world spun, and she found herself hoisted into the air by an enormous hand covered in damp red fur.
"Aaaah-Lu Mi!" Jin Bi screamed at the top of her lungs. "Lu Mi, save me! Please, you're so powerful! Think of something!!"
With Jin Bi lifted off the ground, there was now room on that tiny patch of land.
Without a word, Lu Mi controlled the wind and returned to the ground.
This time, however, he staggered a few steps upon landing.
"Lu Mi-" Jin Bi was still screaming as the red-furred monster raised her to its fang-filled mouth.
"Save me! Burn it! Please!!"
Through her wildly swaying vision, overwhelmed by terror and panic, Jin Bi saw Lu Mi slowly lift his face.
Jin Bi fell silent.
Lu Mi's face and lips were paler than she had ever seen them.
His terrifying gaze, unlike anything she had seen before, fixed on her as though he wished he could cut her into a thousand pieces.
