Every path led to a door, each exactly like the West Gate he had seen during the day.
The thudding of leaps behind him drew closer and closer. He had to make a choice quickly.
Lu Mi looked carefully, again and again, but could find no difference between the two doors.
And there was another problem before him-Roman and his friends were still in that room.
What should I do...?
Just then, someone tapped his shoulder.
He turned to see a girl dragging a suitcase, dressed in a simple T-shirt and jeans.
Despite her mask and hat, Lu Mi recognized her immediately. "Jian Di? What are you doing here?"
Jian Di did not answer his question. Instead, she rambled on as though talking to an old friend:
"Shanshan, do you think we really did the right thing, sneaking away like this?"
"I know they want to marry me off for the bride price, but it seems like that's how it's been for thousands of years, moving from one family to the next..."
"I can escape for now, but can I escape for the rest of my life?"
Lu Mi was certainly no Shanshan, but Jian Di's dark, shining eyes waited for his answer.
Thud! Thud!
The couple had caught up. The instant they saw Jian Di, they sped up even more.
Smiles split their corpse-like faces.
"Daughter, come over here. Don't go that way. Daughter, you're our daughter. We raised you all these years. Mom and Dad can't bear to let you go!"
Those smiles gave Lu Mi goosebumps, but Jian Di seemed oblivious. She merely tilted her head in confusion.
"Should I go back?"
Lu Mi hurriedly said, "No!"
"Times have changed. The chance to study and see the world is right in front of you!"
Jian Di hesitated.
