By the time Cheng Cheng left, there was no one at the door.
He had kept his back to the doorway the whole time, unaware that someone had stood there without making a sound, and was his usual obnoxious self even as he left.
Lu Mi's mind was a complete mess, and his smile was strained.
What did that look in Roman's eyes mean? Was he upset? Jealous?
It seemed a little scarier than that.
But if he liked me, why had he never said anything?
There was no point thinking about that now. First, he needed to sort out his past with Cheng Cheng and be responsible.
He sat cross-legged on the bed, watched the hour hand reach twelve, then turned into a tabby cat.
Cheng Cheng had called him a spirit cat... Lu Mi tucked his two white front paws under his body. So he wasn't a human who turned into a cat-he had been a cat all along.
Come to think of it, hadn't Roman first noticed me because of my cat form?
At that thought, realization dawned on Lu Mi. Then it wasn't such a big deal. There were so many cats in the world, after all. Roman could find another cat to fawn over.
With that settled, Lu Mi closed his eyes in satisfaction and soon fell asleep.
The door to the room remained open. A wind rose in the night, sweeping inside and stirring the curtains.
A figure suddenly appeared on the previously empty windowsill, sitting with one knee drawn up, like a cold, sinister statue in the moonlight.
He shifted his gaze away from the tabby cat on the bed, went to the doorway, and closed the door.
His gloved hand slowly lowered from the handle and locked it.
Lu Mi didn't sleep
