Lu Mi stopped in his tracks, blinking rapidly.
Roman was strong. He could handle Zheng Sinian.
But Lu Mi heard fabric tearing and the savage sounds of a beast ripping and biting.
Lu Mi whipped his head around.
Roman stood motionless in the middle of the living room, letting Zheng Sinian, whose assembled body barely looked human, pounce on him and bite off chunk after chunk of flesh.
"Roman!" Lu Mi shouted. "Get out!!"
Roman's eyes trembled, as though light had returned to them.
Then, without hesitation, he threw Zheng Sinian off him and strode forward.
Yet a second later, Zheng Sinian staggered to his feet and pounced again.
Lu Mi watched anxiously. Normally, there would still be a little time left. Roman only needed to cross that threshold-
Roman threw Zheng Sinian off a second time and ran to the doorway, only to be knocked back by an invisible barrier.
Lu Mi's eyes widened. He felt Shen Yiwen tugging at his arm.
"The exit closed early! We have to reach the Rest Area before the house's front doors shut completely!!"
Cheng Cheng was bouncing around in a panic too. "Lu Mi, hurry up!!"
Thrown back into the house, Roman froze for a moment. Outside, he saw Lu Mi being pulled away by his friends.
They kept their eyes fixed on each other, but the house's front doors had already begun to close automatically.
Even the gap between them held an invisible barrier that prevented him from leaving.
Roman could only watch as the two doors closed before him, cutting him off from the person he had held in his arms just moments ago.
The last sliver of light was shut outside, and the house sank into darkness.
"Gone."
Roman murmured to himself, "Lu Mi. Lu Mi's gone."
