Abandoned old buildings lined both sides, and there was not a single pedestrian on the street.
The streetlights were broken. It was only early evening, yet broad swaths of shadow had already settled over the area, making it seem like a corner abandoned by the times.
The taxi drove on, passing the occasional one or two homes with their lights on.
But after it turned onto another street and drew closer to Jingjiang Resettlement Community, not a single light could be seen in the abandoned buildings all around.
"Buddy, what are you doing coming here at night? I'm not going any farther. I've heard a lot of strange things have happened there!" The taxi driver stopped at the intersection and refused to continue, no matter what.
Jiang Chen did not insist. He got out and continued on foot.
Strangely, there was not a single occupied home in sight nearby, yet many lights shone inside the community. It seemed lively, completely out of place amid the surrounding abandoned area.
