"Leave the car here. Follow behind me and make sure I stay in your sight. If anything unusual happens, shout for help immediately."
Jiang Chen gave her a warning.
Then he took the lead and walked toward the tunnel.
The orange lights were dim. Water dripped somewhere, making a "drip, drip" sound. Before they had gone far, they spotted a wrecked car.
It had crashed into the tunnel wall, its entire front end caved in.
"An angled collision couldn't possibly produce this much force."
"Even at full speed, hitting an obstacle ahead would hardly wreck a car this badly."
Jiang Chen assessed the damage as he examined it closely.
The places where the paint had peeled were badly rusted. The car was empty, but a strong stench of decay stung his nose.
After a moment's thought, he opened the trunk.
Inside was a pile of dismembered remains, badly decomposed but still recognizable as parts of a human body.
"Just a corpse." After a few looks, Jiang Chen shook his head in disappointment.
Behind him, Lin Youwei let out a long sigh of relief.
They continued onward, passing accident scenes all along the way, some old and some recent.
The worst was a bus. There had probably been an explosion after the crash, and the dozens of bodies aboard all bore severe burns. Judging by how fresh they were, the accident might have happened only a dozen or so days ago.
"Looks like even with the road closed, the ghost here still has ways of luring living people inside."
