"What's that lady doing? Trying to sneak into a guest room and steal something?" Li Jie immediately spotted the middle-aged woman lurking by the door.
Beside him, Zhao Erhu bared his teeth. "Guests' belongings aren't the only things she wants to steal."
She wanted their lives!
"What do you mean?" Li Jie turned toward Zhao Erhu, then suddenly froze. "Where's Lao Jiang?"
Zhao Erhu said nothing, merely gesturing ahead with his chin. Li Jie looked over and saw Jiang Chen hugging the wall, creeping toward the woman in an even sneakier posture than hers.
He seemed to be holding something.
"What... what's he trying to do?" Li Jie stared blankly.
Zhao Erhu remained silent, mainly because he couldn't figure out what Jiang Chen was doing either.
Over the course of their journey, he had naturally realized that Jiang Chen was also an Unusual Person. He just wasn't particularly strong. Judging by his physical toughness, he had probably barely reached D-.
The woman ahead was steeped in resentment-a genuine Vicious Ghost. An Unusual Person who had only just reached D- was almost certain to die against one!
Zhao Erhu took a few steps forward, ready to intervene at any moment. He didn't fancy Jiang Chen's chances.
Meanwhile, the woman smiled sinisterly and slowly pushed the door open. Inside, Jiang Xinyi's breathing grew rapid, her heart nearly leaping out of her chest. Sweat soaked her entire body, and tear tracks covered her face.
She had been frightened to tears. The exposed half of the woman's face was deathly pale and gave off a rotting stench. Anyone who saw her would know she wasn't alive!
A ghost!
A ghost!
Someone, please save me. Save me...
Jiang Xinyi cried out helplessly in her heart.
The woman's smile deepened. She deliberately pushed the door open little by little, her nose twitching as though she were inhaling something. The resentment surrounding her grew stronger. This was how ghosts gained strength.
"MA'AM!!!"
A deafening roar erupted practically right against the woman's ear.
Her hand jerked violently, and she nearly jumped out of her skin. She staggered back several steps, staring wide-eyed at the young man holding a large megaphone in front of her.
"You..." She pointed at Jiang Chen, trembling all over with rage.
"The middle-aged ghost is consumed by rage. Ghost Qi +50."
What the hell is wrong with you?
You nearly scared me to death!
But before she could curse him out, Jiang Chen shoved the megaphone in her face again and yelled at the top of his lungs, "Ma'am, what were you doing just now? Peeping on our male classmates while they showered?"
The megaphone was turned up to its highest setting. The blast of sound nearly deafened her.
"Ghost Qi +30."
"Ma'am, you're certainly still young at heart!"
"The middle-aged ghost is overcome with shame and rage! Ghost Qi +45."
The woman glared at the young man through gritted teeth. If you want to talk, just talk! Who shoves a huge megaphone in someone's face?
Suddenly, as though she had thought of something, she gave a sinister smile and shot Jiang Chen a meaningful look.
Then-
Clack.
Her head dropped off and hit the corridor floor, its face covered in a sinister grin. "Hehehe, young man, go on. Keep shouting at my head through that megaphone."
The grotesque sight was enough to give plenty of people a heart attack.
Jiang Chen stood there considering it for two seconds. His eyes lit up, and he suddenly tossed aside the megaphone, scooped up her head, and ran out of the corridor.
Even the woman froze. A vague sense of foreboding rose within her.
Her headless body stumbled after him.
But without a head, even walking became difficult.
Jiang Chen had already reached the end of the corridor. Ignoring the dumbfounded Li Jie and Zhao Erhu, he tossed her head high into the air, channeled all his strength into his right foot, and delivered a vicious kick as it fell.
Bam!
Like a soccer ball, the head traced an arc through the air, sailed over the artificial lake, and landed in the parking lot on the other side.
"The middle-aged ghost is driven mad with rage. Ghost Qi +75."
Never in her wildest dreams had she imagined that dropping her head would fail to scare him half to death. Instead, he had picked it up and carried it away. You've got some fucking nerve!
Li Jie and Zhao Erhu stood rooted to the spot, their minds filled with a single thought: You can actually do that?
Just then, the woman's headless body chased its way outside, stumbling forward like a headless chicken, desperate to find her head.
Li Jie swallowed hard. A headless corpse that could still move-what could it be if not a ghost?
He was just about to run when he saw Jiang Chen walk up, suddenly crouch down, and stick out a leg.
The already unsteady corpse tripped over Jiang Chen's leg and hit the ground hard with a bam. She seemed furious, her hands and feet scrabbling wildly as she tried to grab the person who had tripped her.
But Jiang Chen had already moved away. After clawing blindly a few times without success, she could only climb back up and keep running in search of her head.
Jiang Chen stepped up again, crouched, and stuck out his leg.
Bam!
The whole sequence flowed seamlessly.
He had tripped her again.
"Holy crap, what is Lao Jiang even doing?" Even Li Jie's fear had been swept away.
Beside him, Zhao Erhu's mouth twitched.
It was his first time seeing an Unusual Person deal with a ghost like this.
Have some decency!
You're worse than the ghost!
Just like that, Jiang Chen tripped the headless corpse five or six times in a row, until he noticed that she was no longer contributing any Ghost Qi.
Only then did he finally throw a punch, surging Demonic Power tearing the Vicious Ghost's lingering soul to shreds.
"Ding..."
Jiang Chen took a look. This ghost had brought him nearly four hundred points of Ghost Qi in total.
That was already an astonishing haul, because in terms of strength, this woman was only on par with the nurse from before-the weakest kind of Vicious Ghost.
"Not bad, not bad. Another improvement. I can farm nearly four hundred Ghost Qi from a single lesser Vicious Ghost, and my base strength really is enough to handle the weakest Vicious Ghost!"
Jiang Chen muttered to himself, thoroughly excited.
But he also understood that it had been a lucky break. This woman was so stupid that she had voluntarily dropped her own head, greatly weakening herself and handing him an easy win.
"Lao Jiang, that was badass!" Li Jie exclaimed excitedly from the side.
Zhao Erhu's gaze was far from calm as well. "I've learned something today."
Jiang Chen waved a hand, about to crack a couple of jokes and show off, when he suddenly heard a commotion in the distance. He turned to look and saw a crowd of students, Sun Zhibing, and the supervisor, Sister Wu, all gathered in one place.
"What happened? Let's go take a look."
For now, Jiang Chen left Jiang Xinyi alone. Her room wasn't by the lake, and the middle-aged ghost was already dead, so she wouldn't be in any danger for the time being.
