The words had barely left her mouth when a deafening bang rang out. The two heavy gate panels suddenly flew off their hinges and crashed into the courtyard, shattering to pieces.

Then a sinister voice drifted in from outside the courtyard. "You killed me. Your whole family will pay with their lives!"

Soon, Grandpa and Granny Liu saw Ma Laosan's wife standing in the gateway. Although they had already braced themselves, the sight of her still sent an involuntary shudder through them.

Ma Laosan's wife had already begun to rot. Her entire body was swollen, her eyes were a ghastly white, and four enormous fangs protruded from her mouth. Her face was hideous and terrifying.

Sharp, bluish-black nails had also grown from her hands, each over ten centimeters long and as sharp as a dagger.

What ordinary person had ever seen anything so unnatural?

At the sight of her, Granny Liu immediately shouted, "Ma Laosan's wife! I am Granny Liu, a Spirit-Calling Disciple from Thirty-Li Hamlet, and I've come here today specifically to deal with you. The dead cannot return to life. I know you died unjustly, but humans have their path, and ghosts have theirs. If you refuse to see reason, this old woman will have no choice but to carry out heaven's justice and subdue you. If you behave, though, I'm kindhearted enough to perform the rites for you, so you can enter the Underworld and be reborn as soon as possible."

"I'll leave if you bring that brat Wu Jie out here. I'm going to kill him today," Ma Laosan's wife said viciously, then suddenly hopped forward.

That single hop carried her four or five meters. Her legs seemed unable to bend, and she landed with a dull thud.

She seemed rather like a hopping corpse.

But hopping corpses had no human minds. They killed people and drank blood purely on instinct.

Granny Liu had said she was a Corpse Demon, a perfect fusion of a soul and a hopping corpse. That was why this evil creature could still speak like a human. She was truly uncanny.

Grandpa was frightened by the sight of her too, but he still took two steps toward Ma Laosan's wife with the broad-bladed saber in his hand. "If you want my grandson's life, you'll have to get past my blade first!" he roared. "If you dare touch him, Old Wu will make you die all over again!"

Before Ma Laosan's wife could strike, another eerie scene suddenly unfolded in our courtyard.

Rustling sounds arose from every direction. Before long, a huge swarm of Yellow Weasels and foxes appeared in the courtyard, some on the walls and others on the roof. In an instant, gleaming green eyes were everywhere.

Among them was an enormous Yellow Weasel with a streak of white fur down its back. It scrambled over the courtyard wall and, without a moment's hesitation, lunged straight at Ma Laosan's wife.

The Yellow Weasel with the white streak on its back was the same one that had appeared when Ma Laosan's wife was buried.

At the same time, all the Yellow Weasels and foxes in the courtyard swarmed toward Ma Laosan's wife like locusts, heedless of death.

"The Yellow Immortal has manifested..." Granny Liu said excitedly at the sight.

But an instant later, her expression changed.

The Yellow Weasels attacking Ma Laosan's wife quickly covered her body, but she now possessed limitless strength. As she swung her arms from side to side, she flung whole clusters of Yellow Weasels away. She even seized one by its legs and tore it apart down the middle, then opened her huge mouth and devoured it in great gulps. Blood trickled from the corners of her mouth.

Even the enormous Yellow Weasel with the white streak down its back was sent flying by a single shove, rolling several times across the ground.

Grandpa nearly vomited at the sight.

It was fucking monstrous.

With Yellow Weasels and foxes still hanging all over her, Ma Laosan's wife remained astonishingly fast. Another hop carried her five or six meters, bringing her swiftly toward the doorway.

A little farther and she would charge straight into the house. Grandpa roared, no longer able to afford fear, and raised his heavy saber. He brought it down squarely on Ma Laosan's wife's forehead.

He had thought that blow would split her skull and spill her brains. To his utter astonishment, her head was as hard as stone. Instead, the saber rebounded, the impact leaving his hand numb.

Although he had failed to cleave her head open, the blow drove her back several steps. Ma Laosan's wife looked at the saber in Grandpa's hand and sniffed twice, a trace of fear appearing on her face.

But it lasted only an instant. Ma Laosan's wife let out a furious roar and lunged at Grandpa again. Opening her mouth, she spat a blast of black corpse miasma straight at him.

Grandpa had no idea what it was, but he instinctively dodged.

Beside him, Granny Liu suddenly took a drag from her long tobacco pipe. Its bowl glowed red-hot as she drew in a deep mouthful of smoke, then blew it straight out. The smoke met the corpse miasma Ma Laosan's wife had spat out and neutralized it.

Then Granny Liu swung the pipe in her hand, striking the Corpse Demon directly in the chest and driving her back another few steps.

"Brother Wu, get back inside! This evil thing is too vicious. Let out those roosters we prepared!" Granny Liu shouted as she brandished her long pipe.

Although Grandpa was worried about Granny Liu, he knew her instructions were urgent. He hurried back into the house to find the roosters.

As he turned, Grandpa saw a strange transformation come over Granny Liu. At some point, her eyes had turned an eerie green, shining with a cold light that seemed to belong to an animal.

Grandpa knew then that Granny Liu had begun summoning an immortal, inviting the spirit to possess her body.

"The three mountains all have their masters, and this household has its guardian spirit. Insolent evil creature! The Willow Immortal is here, yet you still dare act so brazenly?!" Granny Liu's voice suddenly changed. It sounded much younger, like the voice of a young woman.

After shouting those words, Granny Liu seemed to become an entirely different person. Even her slightly hunched back seemed to straighten. The pipe in her hand whirled up and down as she struck the Corpse Demon, and every blow sent a flare of fire bursting from the creature's body.

By then, Grandpa had returned to the house and let out the roosters.

The moment the roosters entered the courtyard, they began crowing.

At the sound, the Corpse Demon fighting Granny Liu suddenly shuddered all over. Looking utterly panicked, she turned and hopped toward the gateway, apparently trying to escape.

Just then, Dad suddenly appeared in the gateway.
