Over those two days, I still worked during the day.
In the past, I had earned money to give myself and my family a good life.
But now, even earning money seemed meaningless.
Still, I had to find something to do to distract myself.
I used to feel sad over other people's stories. Now, I had become someone in a story myself.
The great matters of life came down to birth and death. I had experienced birth, and I had experienced death. If I did not die, I would have to keep living, but I had no idea how to live from here on.
At night, I lay in bed tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.
I even got a prescription for sleeping pills, but after taking them, I only felt dizzy and still could not sleep.
In the end, I took out the book my grandfather had left me and opened it to the first page.
It was an extraordinary book. Seventh Master had told me about it.
I thought that, since it was an extraordinary book, it ought to be obscure and difficult to understand, requiring the right chance and circumstances. Surely it contained strange, esoteric arts, profound mysteries that ordinary people could not learn.
But as I read it closely, I found that its contents, at least at the beginning, were not so obscure or difficult to understand.
It explained the secrets of the universe's beginnings, how heaven and earth had formed, what the Dao was, what heaven was, what humans were, and what earth was.
I had gone to university, after all, and could be considered someone with a higher education. I had learned about the universe, the earth, and the origins of humanity.
Yet this book was very different from what I had studied.
