Flying on a clear winter day, looking down at the endless snow beneath their feet while eating ice cream in midair, was quite a nice feeling.
There just wasn't enough of it. They finished it before reaching their destination, but only seconds after dessert, Cloak had carried them thousands of kilometers away and arrived at their objective.
"Is this the place? Where the dark energy appeared?"
Su Ming and Wong landed on the ground and looked at the enormous crater before asking Cloak for confirmation.
Cloak's collar bent several times, like a human nodding. It sensed that dark energy underground. Though only a faint trace remained and it did not know how deep the source lay, this should be the place.
"This looks like a nuclear testing site."
Wong leaned forward and peered into the depths of the crater. Before them was a funnel-shaped pit several hundred meters across, with a hole at its bottom that presumably led underground.
"No, it isn't. Look at those little buildings across the crater."
Su Ming pointed at the container-like buildings on the other side. Such simple housing was often used by scientific expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctic, but these should be Leviathan facilities.
"No one would live this close to a nuclear crater. Nuclear weapons have only existed for ten years. That's nowhere near enough time for the Nuclear Radiation to disperse, not to mention that there's a passage at the bottom of the funnel-shaped crater."
"But there doesn't seem to be anyone over there." Wong shaded his eyes with a hand and looked into the distance through the glare reflecting off the snow.
There was no sign of anyone moving about, and not even smoke rose from the chimneys of those little houses. That was unimaginable in a Siberian winter.
