"What do I need to do?"
Amanda bit her lip, forcing down the urge to sign immediately. She was already twenty years old and knew that gaining something meant paying a corresponding price.
Valentina nodded approvingly, quickly finished her hamburger, picked up the hot dog, and answered with a smile, "I need you to join us."
"Become an agent?"
Amanda glanced around uneasily, as if afraid someone might overhear them.
But the fast-food restaurant was far from quiet. Loud music and the strange laughter of a group of Hippies in the corner drowned out their conversation.
"Don't you want to avenge your father? If you want to go after Hydra, you can't do it alone." Valentina ate her fast food with refined elegance; perhaps that was one of her agent skills. "You'll only be a special field operative. Normally, your identity will be that of a rock star, and your assignments will involve autograph sessions, tours, television appearances, and so on. You'll only need to occasionally pass along information for us or provide cover for certain people, and in return, you'll get all of this."
Amanda looked up at her, then lowered her gaze to the documents. "Why me?"
"We know everything about you. Everything you've done meets the standard of a patriot. In this world of divided powers, rampant violence, and right and wrong turned upside down, we need someone like your father to work with us to change the world. After he died, that person became you."
Valentina's smile faded. In a low, solemn voice, she spoke with an expression filled with the radiance of justice, her figure seeming as imposing as Captain America's.
