"She's dying. Whoever she is, she's going to die."

Su Ming merely glanced down, then calmly withdrew his gaze. Of the man and woman standing amid flowers and sunset below, one would not live much longer.

"Oh? You know them? That woman is an Enchantress. I can sense the power on her." Monark looked away. He was far more powerful than the young woman below, and when he was not using magic, his sorcery could conceal his presence very well. "She's strong, the naturally gifted kind, but she hasn't received much training."

"I don't know the woman, but I know the man. The last time I met him was in Japan." Su Ming set down his coffee cup and shook his head slightly. "Wolverine. There's too much karma on him. Women who stay with him always die, sooner or later. I'd guess she might die in an aliens invasion, or get eaten by cannibals in New Guinea."

"In Eastern terms, that would probably be called a lone star cursed by heaven." Monark tilted his head, slowly eating a biscuit as he used a somewhat unfamiliar idiom to describe the situation. "But even without him, this girl's use of magic is far too reckless. The price of time and Space Magic is terrifying. Perhaps even now, while she smiles and drinks coffee, her bones are melting."

His apprentice grimaced. She was still young and did not want to hear about melting bones while eating.

Su Ming shrugged and turned toward the distant horizon. The Eiffel Tower now looked like nothing more than a black silhouette against the setting sun.

"Unless she mixes her own bone marrow into coffee and drinks it, she isn't alone. Behind her, there must be a group similar to the Nameless Ones helping her pay the price."
