By the time Su Ming returned to the dining table, the roast meat was still hot. He calmly rubbed his hands together as though nothing had happened.
"It's really cold outside today. You didn't have to wait for me. Go on and eat. Steve, have a drink."
Without suspecting anything, Steve raised his glass and clinked it with Su Ming's. Although he and Gin had already drunk quite a bit, a super-soldier's rapid metabolism meant alcohol had virtually no effect on him.
"Did you help Howard pick out a suitable gift?"
He noticed that Howard had not returned and had probably gone home.
Su Ming took a sip of red wine and smiled as he nodded. "Yes. Maria was very happy when she saw the gift. She said it was the best Christmas present she had ever received."
"Aren't Christmas presents usually opened tomorrow morning? I remember that when I was little, my father would put presents in my stocking after I fell asleep and hang it over our fireplace." Steve did not quite understand the Stark family's habits. It was only a little after eight in the evening; opening presents now was far too early.
"It was all Howard's fault. You know what he's like. The moment he gets something good, he has to show it off. He can't wait even a second."
Su Ming looked rather helpless, as if blaming Howard for ruining the surprise.
On second thought, Steve felt that made sense. Whenever Howard came up with some new invention, he would loudly publicize it. Even when they played mahjong together, his mouth was never still.
He would go on about inventing some new bomb a few days ago or developing a new weapon last month, making it sound as if no one else at Stark Industries
