In the firelight and shockwave of the explosion, neither Natasha nor Fury looked back.
The Ghost Car, its lights off, quietly drove away from the scene once more. It would take the highway patrol at least several minutes to get there.
Natasha drove along the highway for a while, then pressed a button in the car to switch it into four-wheel-drive off-road mode. The ordinary sedan became a high-clearance SUV, turned off the highway, and drove straight through the farmland by the roadside.
Fury kept his flashlight on as he flipped through the stolen documents. Although he could not understand most of the contents, he understood English.
These several large cardboard boxes were all filled with information on a type of Gamma Ray, including partial experimental data, some of the procedures, how to assemble the equipment, and the side effects the experiment might have on living organisms.
They were not especially complete. The documents bore strange corrosion marks, with charred edges as though they had been burned, and they were stained with faint green slime.
"I understand why the military wanted this." Fury turned off his flashlight and took out some paper to wipe his hands. "They've got their eyes on the side effects of this radiation."

Natasha acted as though she did not care in the slightest as she drove, but in truth, she had pricked up her ears.
"A physics report. This was Dr. Dean's project. Look here—the side effects of Gamma Rays include mania, irritability, reduced intelligence, and contagious blood." Fury tapped the experimental records against his knee. "But it can give a mouse the strength of an elephant."
