In Drow culture, a matron's consort, a "house father," merely provided the "seed." He could not be called the child's father. It was even common for fathers and sons to serve the same matron at the same time.

As the third son of the Do'Urden family to be born alive, Drizzt should have been sacrificed to the Goddess Lolth at birth because of a promise his mother had previously made to her.
However, he had been born during the Do'Urden family's attack on the DeVir family. His eldest brother, Dinin Do'Urden, had been stabbed in the back and killed by his second brother during that battle. Lolth delighted in Dark Elves slaughtering their own kin and had been exceptionally pleased.
So she took Dinin's soul, indicating that she had received the sacrifice. Drizzt was now the second son rather than the third, so she did not want him. When the Do'Urden family had a third son again, they could send him to her.
