Carol ran into the base, searching among the skeletal remains for anything that could prove their identities.
Judging by the dog tags filling her hands and the tears streaming from beneath her eyepatch, quite a few people she knew were probably here.
Su Ming held his curved blade and guarded the door, watching as she ran to the stairwell one moment and the vehicles the next.
There was no stench of decay in the air. Instead, it smelled of dust, like an old inn that had been closed for decades. Moonlight streamed through the crack in the door behind them, stretching the shadows of the two standing figures long across the floor.
After thinking for a few seconds, he turned and grabbed the two doors. With a rumble, he shut them again.
If the people managing this place had closed the doors to keep something from getting out, he had better do the same. Like kneading clay, he molded every warped section of the doors back into place. Once shut, they fit together perfectly. Good.
"Obviously, there was a biological leak. This base was sealed in an emergency to prevent the crisis from spreading." He walked over and patted Carol on the shoulder. "Pull yourself together. We still don't know what our enemy is, or where it's hiding."
The base was full of the enemy's scent, so overpowering that Strangle could not tell which direction it came from.
Humans might not have been able to smell it, but the information Strangle conveyed to its host's mind vividly compared the monster to a dog that would not stop pissing everywhere. The creature had left its Pheromone throughout the entire base.
Those Pheromone interfered with Strangle's sense of smell, making it feel as though the creature was everywhere.
Still, there were clues.
