The aircraft revealed itself. It was a flying vehicle shaped like a pot-bellied bird, and the four vector nozzles on its wings began continuously blasting out hot air. Grass clippings flew everywhere across the lawn, but Fury was bald, so he had no worries about his hairstyle.
Sure enough, shaving one's head got rid of a lot of troubles.
Fury had acquired this technology from the X-Men. It could be considered a knockoff of the Blackbird Jet. The military intended to move against the Mutants, but Fury had proactively approached Charles, trading S.H.I.E.L.D.'s neutrality for a few things.
Even if the Director planned to move against the Mutants, Fury, as the head of field operations, had ten thousand ways to muddle through it.
In his view, rather than trying to wipe out the Mutants completely like the military, it was better to build a good relationship with them. That made it easier to monitor them, manipulate them, and use them.
Charles had been deeply troubled by Magneto. Whenever Charles led the Mutants in doing even the slightest good deed, Magneto would pull off something like a terrorist attack and ruin every bit of the Mutants' good reputation.
More and more forces were hostile to Mutants. Naturally, Charles had been delighted when Egghead had come to make friends on his own initiative.
After all, they were both bald, and bald people had a common language. So, as a diplomatic gift, Charles had Beast design the Quinjet for S.H.I.E.L.D.
With S.H.I.E.L.D.'s production capacity, this sort of thing had long since been put into service.
