The metal doors opened, revealing a circular laboratory cluttered with all sorts of equipment. A woman stood with her back to the group, busy at the control console.

The apparatus before her looked somewhat like the transporter platform from Star Trek, only larger and gleaming silver, with a more futuristic appearance.

"Back already, Red Lantern?"

She did not turn around, remaining focused on her work.

Su Ming raised a hand to signal everyone to stay quiet, then imitated Dex-Starr's voice through his Power Ring. "Nothing happened outside. A meteor hit the space station, but I took care of it. Are you ready over there?"

"I believe so. Just calibrating the cellular matrix took me eight days to get it running again. I hope it works. Of course, that's only in theory. I can't say for sure in practice. I'm just a technician."

Su Ming set Bobo down and had him inspect anything suspicious while continuing in Dex-Starr's voice. "A technician? A technician capable of operating New Gods equipment—are you saying it's a pile of junk?"

The Zamarons woman named Hax remained calm. She did not look up or turn around to face Dex-Starr, merely rapidly pressing buttons and inputting programs no one else knew.

"This summoner is a surviving relic of ancient technology, Red Lantern. It is not junk. Also, I could adjust your Power Ring's voice program. You sound like a starving predator."

"Maybe I am." Su Ming had already floated behind her, resting Godslayer on her shoulder as he switched back to his own voice. "You are my prisoner now, ma'am. Raise your hands and turn around slowly."

Hax paused, but she did not obey Deathstroke. "I can't. If I don't finish my work, my master will be angry."

"Heh." Su Ming had no intention of wasting words.
