On the outskirts of Gotham, Slaughter Swamp.
This stinking mire, thick with miasma and sewage, had looked the same for over a century. Few plants could survive within it, and the rare patches of exposed land held nothing but poisoned dead trees draped in brown, cotton-like lichen.
The viscous mud lay as smooth as a mirror beneath the moonlight. Small bubbles occasionally rose from below, warping the light and shadows before they slowly settled again.
The evening breeze carried its nauseating stench across every inch of roughly twenty square kilometers. Even the craziest people in Gotham City had no desire to come here.
Because this was the lair of a super-monster.
The monster's original name was Cyrus Gold. Murdered by his wife in 1894, his corpse had been thrown into the Gotham River and, through the old sewers of that era, sunk into Slaughter Swamp outside Gotham.
By modern times, the swamp's decay had accumulated around Gold's corpse. It not only preserved his body, but turned him into the monster from a terrifying nursery rhyme.
A giant Zombie with thoughts and will of his own. He was dim-witted but immensely strong, and had even clashed head-on with Doomsday more than once without losing ground.
"Solomon Grundy, born on a Monday, christened on Tuesday, married on Wednesday, took ill on Thursday, got worse on Friday, died on Saturday, buried on Sunday, that was the end of Solomon Grundy~~~"
A tall, skinny figure stood beside a ruined little shack, swaying his head as he watched the bubbling swamp and cheerfully hummed the nursery rhyme.
His shrill singing sounded like a ghost's wail in the nighttime swamp. He knew Grundy had been recruited by Circe, so this place was perfectly safe.
"Sky Tyrant calling Batwoman! Please respond! We failed, and the losses were
