When everyone climbed onto the city walls, they saw densely packed monsters burrowing up from beneath the ground. Most were undead creatures like skeletons and zombies, mixed with some massive things Su Ming could not name off the top of his head.
They were probably new monsters Circe had created with witchcraft. Chaos was vividly displayed across their bodies, their irregular pustules and deformed forms serving as their defining features.
At first, the tide was grayish white, hanging far off on the horizon like a thin thread. But when the blood-red moon suddenly rose into the sky, everyone realized that the monster army was already right before them.
Because of the previous purge, Blue Devil had very few troops he could gather. Most were Mages or guards who had been close to Jim back in the day.
Even counting Su Ming's group, there were only around thirty of them. Facing the enemy horde surging in like a tsunami, the people atop the walls looked as small as oysters clinging to seaside rocks.
Su Ming rested both hands on the battlements and silently watched the monster army begin climbing the walls and ramming the gates. Then he turned to Monark.
"Bring up the sun."
Monark pulled the heavy tome from his suit, pressed a finger against its spine, and poured magic into it. The massive book opened on its own in the night and began flipping pages, rainbow dreamlike light shooting from between every sheet.
Sounds like hymns and the laughter of elves rang across the sky. Though the enemies before them were endless, everyone who heard those sounds relaxed and smiled.
The sky became like a spinning backdrop on a cheap stage. Night and the blood moon toppled toward one horizon, while the sun and blue sky instantly rolled up
