The scene fell silent. The professor said nothing, merely standing there quietly. With the sun behind him, his expression was difficult to make out.
The little badgers all held their breath. They felt that no matter how good-tempered the professor was, he had to be about to lose his temper. Besides, he was a new professor, and they knew almost nothing about him. No one knew what kind of personality he had.
They had only heard from the Muggle students that PE teachers often enjoyed physically punishing students, and that it could get rather brutal.
Hermione bit her lip. As a model student, she had never covered for bad children skipping class, but she could not betray her House either. The prefect had specifically reminded them of this over breakfast.
