In the Room of Requirement, Hermione was like a cat with its fur standing on end, her eyes wide as she stared without moving at the professor across from her.
He merely opened the box in his hand and pulled out something like a pocket watch by its golden chain.
Its outer edge was a metal ring, with a rotatable metal disk set inside it. The disk contained a tiny transparent hourglass visible from both sides, and the golden grains of sand within remained utterly still.
"Power, Hermione. The rules of the Magic World are beneath my notice, and besides, this was all done through proper channels."
Su Ming placed the watch face in his palm and held it out before the girl.
That was simply how it was. Time-Turners were not particularly rare in the Magic World. At Hogwarts, even some upper-year students could apply to professors to use one so they could take more classes.
Professors also had the authority to apply to the Ministry of Magic for such items. They were usually kept in the Ministry's archives, and as long as one filed a suitably justified request, they could be borrowed.
It was just that British bureaucracy took far too long. Su Ming had only spent money to speed things up a little.
The approval process had originally required more than eight months. He spent only fifty thousand Galleons, and the wait was shortened to a week.
Even for the Sorcerer Supreme, being able to buy time with money was a bargain.
