The two landed on a grassy patch nearby, but the lawn beneath their feet crumbled like ash. The blades of grass were still lush green, yet at the slightest touch, they rapidly blackened and fell apart.

The Phoenix Force represented destruction and rebirth. The fragile lives of the grass had been incinerated in an instant, so quickly that even their husks had not had time to react.

Su Ming walked aside and poked a blackened dead tree with one finger. Sure enough, with that faint touch, the tree toppled to one side and shattered into a heap of black ash.

"What caused this? An explosion from an alien weapon? An experiment gone wrong? Superpowers out of control?"
