Black holes were perhaps the most mysterious celestial bodies in the universe as humanity understood it, their surrounding spacetime curvature so immense that even light could not escape.
Yet the gigantic black hole before the four of them was a colossal entity Deathstroke had never seen, even after visiting so many universes.
The largest black hole he had seen before was S50014 in Cepheus. That black hole had a radius of 1,400 AU. AU was an astronomical unit, referring to the average distance between Earth and the sun; one AU was 150 million kilometers.
Even so, compared with the one before them, that black hole was probably no more than an ant beside an elephant's foot.
"This black hole's existence exceeds even Doom's imagination. It overturns much of what we consider common sense. It seems the entire Negative Zone can be regarded as sediment from its accretion disk. But once we enter its gravitational disk, I fear there will be no turning back."
Doom stood beside Deathstroke, arms folded as he looked into the distance. Their current position was already at the limit of the safe zone. One step farther, and they would be drawn into the black hole.
The enormous celestial body rotated slowly. At its center was an area even blacker than the Dark Multiverse behind it, while the surrounding accretion disk formed a faintly glowing nebula, making its presence visible.
It was like a total solar eclipse that would never fade, a white ring encircling a blot of deepest ink.
Susan had changed clothes. She was no longer wearing that tattered blue bodysuit, but a new outfit Doom had made for her. Naturally, it was green as well.
Standing beside Doom and looking ahead, she spoke.
"In theory, matter swallowed by a black hole will always be
