Adam was born in Chicago, an American of African descent who graduated from Cornell University with a degree in electrical engineering. In that regard, he could be considered Scott's colleague—they were both electricians.
The only difference was that Scott was a self-taught amateur, while Adam continued his studies after enlisting in the US Navy. He earned doctorates in physics and philosophy, and even became a member of the Navy football team.
After leaving the service, he studied the "negative matter" brought by Kree invaders in his home garage: one of the Nega-Bands from the Mar-Vell incident.
Then his experiment went wrong. An explosion turned him into a humanoid negative-matter reactor.
He was a special case. Within the Main Dimension, which was made of positive matter, he was the sole unique existence. His entire body's polarity rested in a peculiar neutral state, achieving a strange balance that was difficult to replicate.
He was neither positive matter nor anti-matter. He was simply the light of balance.
The military discovered Blue Marvel's powers, and in order to control him, those bastards resorted to a classic tactic: sending a female military intelligence agent to approach him.
It was indeed standard military procedure. The honey trap had worked wonderfully on Captain America, Wolverine, Hulk, and Blue Marvel alike.
An agent named Marlene Frazier met and fell in love with Blue Marvel, and they later married. She fell for her target and also confessed that she was a military spy. Blue Marvel nearly exploded with rage and even went to the Moon to clear his head for a while.
But after calming down
