"Thanks for taking me in, man."
In the teenager's sweat-stinking room, Harry gave a bitter smile as he accepted a sandwich and orange soda combo from his friend Peter. Though he was hungry, he did not immediately wolf it down. Instead, he thanked Peter first.
"We're friends. It's what I should do." Peter smiled a little guiltily and turned to clear the clutter off the bed. Luckily, he had not left his suit out in the open.
Of course, that was not the only reason he felt guilty. There was also the matter of Mary Jane.
Ever since they were little, the three of them had attended the same kindergarten and had been good friends. But people grew up. Starting in seventh grade—the first year of middle school—Mary had begun dating Harry.
That was perfectly normal. Harry was rich, handsome, and good at basketball, while Peter had just been a shut-in nerd back then—skinny, small, wearing glasses, and always talking about computers and physics. It was only natural that girls did not like him.
So Peter could only remain friends with Mary, burying the vague feelings in his heart.
But things had changed now. They were all in high school, and Peter had become Spider-Man. Maybe power had brought him ambition, because he had finally dared to secretly love those girls.
Usually, it did not seem like much, but now...
Harry sees me as his best friend. When he's fallen on hard times, he even sees me as someone he can rely on. Yet I have a crush on Mary. That's so despicable. This is wrong.
Having a crush on his best friend's girlfriend was far too immoral. Peter felt deeply guilty over it, to the point that he wanted to slap himself.
With that on his mind, he secretly
