The attackers advanced toward the Central Power Battery. Their plan was clear: purify it first, try to free Ion, and awaken the power of will throughout the universe.
The enormous beacon had already dimmed, like dying embers.
Ion was enormous, so the Green Lantern Central Power Battery that imprisoned it was likewise a Cosmic Wonder-class structure.
It looked somewhat like a glowing green chamber pot, roughly fifty kilometers tall and twenty kilometers in diameter, grander even than the Little Blue Men's watchtowers.
The Battery could be seen at a glance even from orbital space. It was as though all the light on the planet flowed out from there.
In the past, it had dyed the entire planet green. Now, Black Light like dense fog surrounded it, seemingly trying to invade the Battery, while its glow had become exceptionally weak.
Thus, no one objected when Hal proposed rescuing Ion first. Though they belonged to different Lantern Corps, the Emotional Entities behind them shared complex connections.
With Sinestro and Carol backing him, Hal automatically became the commander of the allied forces. In truth, however, the one making strategic and tactical decisions was still the red-faced leader of the Yellow Lanterns.
Hal had once been a pilot. Commanding large-scale Legion warfare was not his specialty.
Especially not in the US Air Force, a place overflowing with individual heroism. The only leadership he knew was charging at the front, knowing that as long as he shot down the enemy, he and his friends would be safe.
Still, he was a soldier through and through. He struck cleanly and decisively. Even when the ones blocking his path were all former comrades, Hal did not slow in the slightest as he destroyed them.
"Hal, why resist the Black Lantern's gift? Come give your brother a hug."
