A few minutes later, Deathstroke stood with his arms folded, watching the girl in the glowing chair with interest.
"How do you feel now?"
Aphra looked devastated. Pinned to the chair made of energy, she could barely control her own thoughts. The answer slipped out before she could stop it:
"Regret. Nothing but regret."
At first, she had led Su Ming and Harley down into the enormous pit. There, they had found the remains of a giant mechanical worm and masks scattered all around it.
She had immediately started counting the masks and told the rich kid to get ready to pay.
But Zero Three and BT were killing machines, not skilled counterfeiters. Or perhaps they had simply been too ruthless about cutting costs.
The original masks were made from a special alloy, incredibly sturdy and heavy. These fakes were so thin that, in her excitement, Aphra squeezed one of the convincing-looking masks out of shape.
While Aphra had taken Deathstroke and Harley to eat, Zero Three had gone off on his own, spent some of his savings on materials, and tried to make enough masks in town to maximize their profits.
Making one short blade from a kilogram of metal was hardly the same as making a hundred from it.
The fake masks were almost as thin as cicada wings. When the Wookiee came to bury them afterward, he could not even put them very deep without damaging them.
Su Ming had nearly laughed at them. He barely held it in, then solemnly declared that the masks were fake and he would not pay for them.
That was when Aphra showed her true colors as a swindler. The two robots came over, flexing their hands, and said that if he did not pay, they would beat him up and
