After calling back the Cloak of Levitation to guard the unconscious Zatanna, Su Ming's group began checking the mansion room by room, searching for a possible library.
Yet all along the way, all sorts of eerie laughter echoed through the corridors. The lights flickered on and off, and tables, chairs, or ornaments occasionally came flying at them. The ghosts seemed to have started a carnival.
After all, the house had been in the Pocket Dimension all this time. It had been far too long since they had seen living people.
"There are too many ghosts here. Is this place connected to the Underworld?" Donna was not afraid of ghosts. She merely found these laughing things annoying. Ever since the incident with The Batman Who Laughs, she had disliked people or things that were always laughing.
Even while searching for books, she still gripped her Titan Sword, looking as though she intended to catch a ghost and kill it a second time.
Deathstroke emerged from the bathroom and shook his head. He had learned something else: Zatanna's family had not been in the habit of reading while using the toilet. There was not even a magazine or comic book in there, only a ghost.
That ghost had tried to scare him by spraying blood from the faucet, only to be sent on its way by the White Lantern Ring.
"These ghosts are resentful spirits Zatara captured during his travels years ago. They were originally locked up in the old house for rehabilitation through labor, but before they could be reformed, he died himself. What we have now is a containment breach."
Deathstroke shut the bathroom door, shook the bloody water from his hands, and explained to the two women and ape beside him:
