The enormous ball of light touched the ground in an instant. The world dimmed slightly, only for an even more intense flash to erupt the next moment.
The bright white shockwave was like a bubble bursting through a liquid surface made of mercury, or a white mushroom opening its cap. The explosion swept vast amounts of earth near the Blast Point into the air and vaporized it all, forming a massive crater in the blink of an eye.
The shelter was gone, and so was the canyon. After the brief explosion, all that remained was a smooth pit dozens of kilometers across, exactly the size of the ball of light the Cloaked Figure had held up earlier.
The strange man floating in the sky waited for the dust to settle before looking for the people who had been eating.
By his reasoning, he should not have been able to see anything.
Yet he saw those people still floating in midair, maintaining the poses they had held while sitting on the ground. They were all looking in another direction, as though something had frightened them.
The Cloaked Figure looked that way as well, but saw nothing. He fell into brief confusion.
Because it simply made no sense. These weaklings could not possibly have withstood his attack, not even a casual strike.
Why had the people eating hot pot emerged completely unharmed? And why were they all looking toward a place where no one existed after the explosion?
The answer was actually very simple: they had never been there in the first place.
While Deathstroke had been waiting for Luthor and Superman to arrive, he had already arranged for everyone else to return to the Waverider. He had them sit on the floor of the ship's cafeteria and begin their hot pot
