Watching Ancient One begin contacting people, Su Ming had nothing better to do. While Frigga and the others shut down the stream and packed up, he went over to fiddle with the python they had caught from who knew where for barbecue ingredients, reminiscing about a few things along the way.
The Watcher race had actually developed along a path somewhat similar to the Constructors. The Constructors, as the "eldest sons of the universe," had stronger interventionist tendencies, while the Watchers were precisely the opposite.
As a race that had reached a highly advanced civilization not long after the universe was born, they should have been contemporaries of the Survivors in the Elders Of The Universe Council, and even somewhat stronger, considering they had at least avoided extinction.
Back then, Watcher society was highly developed. They never lacked food or clothing, and everyone had attained an advanced life form. While they could not achieve true immortality, they were basically long-lived.
No longer dependent on matter, free of illness and disaster, able to wander through Parallel Worlds across the Multiverse at will—it sounded happy, right?
But before long, they fell into philosophical confusion.
Simply put: "Who are we? What should we become? What should we do?"
They possessed immense power but lacked the corresponding ideological guidance. They could only feel their way across the river, so the Watchers decided to hold a meeting to find the future direction of their race.
Should they leave the Multiverse and venture into the higher-level Megaverse, or even the Omniverse? Or should they dig deeper into the potential of the universe they inhabited and wait for their accumulated strength to bear fruit? Or perhaps find some entertainment and start enjoying themselves?
The Watchers did not depend on material resources, so a militaristic path was excluded
