The music remained melodious, the nightclub atmosphere as suggestive as ever, and after Lucifer kicked her, Maze left with a flushed face.
The atmosphere between the two Angels was strange. The Fallen Angel who had killed wore a smile, while the Death Angel who had been killed remained expressionless. They simply stared wide-eyed at each other, as though they could see through one another's thoughts that way.
But that was clearly impossible. Even Angels could not control the human heart.
"How did you feel after I died?" Amenadiel spoke first, since he had come to Lucifer today for a reason.
"Relieved, brother. I felt more relaxed than ever before. And the body you're wearing now looks better than that big Black strongman from before."
Only then did Lucifer push the glass of wine before him toward the other man. The bottom of the glass left a ripple on the white tablecloth.
"I thought you liked strong Black males."
The old man lifted the wine and sniffed it, but did not drink. The mortal world was too polluted; true Angels did not drink unclean springs.
"Wrong, my brother. I love every human being—regardless of skin color, age, appearance, gender, health, or wealth. I love them as they love me. That is probably an emotion you cannot understand, because your duty is to guard Hell, and Hell is simply too boring."
The blond demon blinked and spoke playfully to the old man.
"You are imitating God, but only He can love everyone. You are merely making a clumsy imitation. Your pride would never allow you to fall in love with anyone. Still, it seems you remember that you will always remain connected to Heaven."
"Heh. Sometimes I remember. What about you? It seems Deathstroke's earlier rampage through Heaven inadvertently repaired the Angel
