"****, a simple noun."
Batwoman gave the answer in less than a second. Though she wore her usual expressionless face, the way she looked at the bastard carried a hint of disdain.
"Obviously, you wouldn't have come all the way to Gotham just to ask me something so simple. That leaves only two possibilities. Either you're blind, or for some reason, you can't see what's written here. It's magic."
Once again, she used a statement to express a question. That was simply her way of speaking.
The Gotham Police Department building was not tall, an old four-story structure. Though Wayne Enterprises had funded renovations many times over the years, its height had never changed.
As a result, there was not much wind on the police station rooftop. Yet Constantine felt his heart turn cold.
"Damn it. Lucifer can see it, say it, and write the name down. You can see it and say it too, but I'm the only one who can neither see nor hear it. Fuck, did I offend God? Did that bastard curse me? Fuck you! God!"
He raised his middle finger at the sky and loudly cursed that damned God. Batwoman was widely acknowledged as the greatest detective in the DC Universe, but he was a detective too—Master of Dark Arts, even. Why could she do something he could not?
But after giving it some thought, he could not be bothered to keep cursing. Tugging at his trench coat collar, he shivered.
"Forget it. Whoever wants to save this shitty world can save it. I'm leaving, Batwoman. This is yours now. Since you can see it, take your time figuring it out. I'm sure understanding what those words mean won't be a problem for you."
As he spoke, he did not even bother taking his notebook.
