After accepting Harley's explanation, Donna poked the corpse on the ground with her sword and confirmed that he was no longer breathing. Still, the fact that no blood had spurted out was very strange.
The sword tip sliced through the dead man's clothes on his back. Donna examined the wound where her earlier strike had pierced through and could only see exposed fat, white as stuffing poking out of a cloth doll. There was not a trace of red.
Forget blood—this creature's body seemed to contain hardly any fluids at all. It was extremely dry.
"To be safe, could you dismember him?" Harley stretched and gently rubbed her nose. "There might be something in his head. I can take it to the Chief. Doom Patrol hasn't left yet, right?"
When it came to handling biological heads, the Chief was the professional. He was a first-rate lunatic, a second-rate team leader, and a third-rate brain surgeon, but a top scientist with exceptional expertise in brain-machine interaction.
