Even among humans, no marriage could leave both parties one hundred percent satisfied. After all, there was an idiom called "sharing a bed but dreaming different dreams"; plenty of people merely made do.
At the level of Concept Entities, conventional marriage did not truly exist. It was nothing more than coming together to complete a conceptual fusion and create some offspring.
The so-called marital relationship was a rule born of human understanding, and could even be called a restriction against nature.
Gods had no such restrictions. If the two got along, they stayed together longer; if they did not, it became more like a casual fling, and once the goal of reproduction had been achieved, they went their separate ways.
But Mother Night and her former husband, "Time," had actually shared a fairly good relationship. It had lasted at least ten thousand years, but Time of the DC Universe was simply too unfortunate.
The editors rebooted things today, reset a hero's origin tomorrow, performed Time Reversal the day after tomorrow, then staged all sorts of effects caused by the Speed Force the day after that.
Thus, "Time" went mad. He had already been made fragile by dark stories, and after being tormented again and again against his will, he developed amnesia, self-doubt, mental haze, and other symptoms. In the end, he went insane.
Apparently, he had not died, but had become Diffindo. His current state was not much different from death.
Agamotto, however, had none of those troubles. He could use the Time Concept, though only to a limited extent. Besides, he had never been the sort who liked taking charge. He lacked strong opinions and therefore would not try to act important and shoulder the blame.
So his safety was well assured.
Besides, Mother Night did not need her
